Elvis '56 Coming to Canada, November 17-25, 2015

New Touring Concert Production Takes Audiences Back to When Rock Was Young and Before the King Was Crowned; Starring Cody Ray Slaughter, Graceland's Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist and Star of the Million Dollar Quartet

MEMPHIS, TN--(Marketwired - October 29, 2015) - Next year, Elvis fans around the globe will celebrate the 60th anniversary of Elvis' rise from a regional sensation to an international phenomenon. His 1956 tour through the southern United States cemented his ability to draw larger audiences than any other touring performer in the music industry.

To celebrate this anniversary, Elvis entertainer Cody Ray Slaughter will perform at venues throughout North America in the touring production "Elvis '56." This "biopic concert" presents a look back at Elvis' career before he was the King of Rock and Roll. Slaughter will be backed by a 1956 authentic rockabilly band called the Hillbilly Katz, featuring David Fontana on drums. Fontana, son of Elvis' Rock and Roll Hall of Fame drummer DJ Fontana, leads the three-piece band which also features an upright bass player and rockabilly guitarist. A comedic song and dance act appropriate for 1956 will open the show.

At the age of 24, Slaughter is one of the world's most accomplished Elvis Tribute Artists. He has performed as Elvis in the Tony Award-winning production of the Million Dollar Quartet, and was the youngest person to be named the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist by Graceland, the industry's highest honor. Slaughter is also one of only a handful of tribute acts ever to appear on Late Night with David Letterman, performing on the same stage that Elvis performed on during his appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show.

This show, however, takes Slaughter out of his normal comfort zone. While the show is designed to pay tribute to Elvis and take the audience back in time, it will be Slaughter that is evident on stage. "It's not a first person portrayal of Elvis," said Slaughter, "I don't try to make it look like I'm putting on Elvis; I've been an Elvis fan for so long that it just comes naturally. It's something that just kind of happens."

"We call it a biopic concert for just that reason," says Jason Sherry, the show's producer. "It's a concert about Elvis, and will appeal to Elvis fans, but the star of the show is Cody and we want his talent to show through. We hope the combination will help introduce an entire new audience to Elvis' musical legacy and help make Cody a star in his own right." When asked why Slaughter was chosen for this show, Sherry explains, "The entire show was built around Cody and what he does on stage. I've never seen any entertainer that captures Elvis' musical style better, while allowing his own personality and personal charisma to show through."

"Elvis '56" will be touring ALBERTA and SASKATCHEWAN making stops in Morinville on 11/17, Vegreville on 11/18, Langham on 11/19, Prince Albert on 11/20, Medicine Hat on 11/21, Lethbridge on 11/23 and Red Deer on November 24. All tickets are $39.95. For more information on "Elvis '56," including how to buy tickets to each show, visit

Cody Ray Slaughter is a seasoned actor, musician, singer and songwriter with a unique ability to capture the essence of the King of Rock and Roll in the earliest stages of his career. His resemblance to Elvis and his southern charm and demeanor make his illusion of Elvis effortless, and his natural charisma is evident to anyone who sees him perform.

Born and raised in Harrison, Arkansas, Slaughter began entertaining at the age of 13. His passion for Elvis' music was evident early in his life and steered him on his path as an entertainer. He has performed all across the country as Elvis in the traveling production of the Tony Award-winning Broadway sensation "The Million Dollar Quartet," and was nominated as best featured actor for this role. In addition, Slaughter has performed in theaters in Branson, Missouri and was the featured entertainer at the Tennessee Shindig in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee at the age of 17. Slaughter has appeared on two television shows, MTV's "My Super Sweet 16" and on the "Late Show with David Letterman" and has performed throughout the United States, Canada and the UK at special events, fairs and festivals.

In 2011 Slaughter received the two highest accolades in the Elvis tribute industry: the Heart of the King Horizon Award, on the stage where Elvis made history in Las Vegas; and the title of Graceland's Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist.

Apart from his tributes to "the greatest entertainer of all time," Slaughter has a budding caeer as a country music singer and songwriter. But despite diversifying his repertoire and building a reputation with his own music, Slaughter still says "my greatest joy is when I am paying tribute to Elvis and his music and keeping his spirit alive with his fans."
