emBoot and Neterion Team to Enable More Scalable iSCSI Boot Solutions

Combination of 10 Gigabit Ethernet Bandwidth and iSCSI Boot Using Standard Network Cards Offers Customers Improved Server Management and Enhanced Disaster Recovery Capabilities

MISSISSAUGA, ON and CUPERTINO, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- September 27, 2006 -- emBoot Inc., a pioneer in delivering network boot capabilities, and Neterion Inc., an industry leader in the 10 Gigabit Ethernet adapter market, today announced the formation of a Technology Partnership to allow customers to expand the deployment of business solutions based on iSCSI boot. Built upon Microsoft's SAN Boot Architecture, winBoot/i™ allows the booting of Microsoft Windows 2003 servers (including Microsoft Windows 2003 R2) from iSCSI storage using standard Ethernet network adapters, offering customers a compelling solution for simplifying server management, reducing costs, and deploying more robust disaster recovery solutions. Neterion's Xframe® II, a 10 GbE adapter based on the PCI-X 2.0 bus architecture with Double Date Rate technology, provides the network bandwidth necessary to scale winBoot/i based solutions across the enterprise.

Growth in the number of servers booting from centrally managed iSCSI storage is dependent on the scalability of the iSCSI storage resources. While iSCSI target vendors offer various scalability options, a common approach is to provide high-capacity network connectivity to the iSCSI target in the form of 10 GbE network adapters. Recognizing this requirement for storage and bandwidth scalability to support a broader deployment of iSCSI boot solutions, emBoot and Neterion have formed this partnership to test and certify the interoperability of the companies' respective products in customer solution scenarios.

"Our customers have deployed iSCSI boot solutions based on netBoot/i and/or winBoot/i and seen measurable results: reduced complexity and operating costs and accelerated deployment times through simplified server management," said George Kostiuk, CEO of emBoot Inc. "Through our partnership with Neterion we can now facilitate our customer's current efforts to scale those initial deployments across the enterprise to build upon those proven results."

"The broad deployment of iSCSI boot solutions is another important factor driving the need for 10 GbE network connectivity, especially for iSCSI storage solutions," said Dave Zabrowski, President & CEO of Neterion. "We've chosen to partner with emBoot to ensure that organizations have access to a tested and trusted end-to-end business solution that reduces costs, improves operational efficiency and enables more robust disaster recovery solutions."

About winBoot/i and netBoot/i

winBoot/i utilizes Microsoft's iSCSI software initiator and SAN boot architecture to allow the booting of any Microsoft Windows Server 2003 using existing low-cost Ethernet adapters. With winBoot/i customers can quickly and easily create and centrally manage boot images, including the rapid cloning of images using Microsoft's SYSPREP utility to speed server deployments.

netBoot/i, which utilizes emBoot's own iSCSI initiator, delivers the ability to boot multiple operating systems from iSCSI storage including Windows XP Professional, Windows 2000, and Windows 2003.

winBoot/i is the recommended solution for a Microsoft Windows 2003 computing environment. netBoot/i is recommended to boot other operating systems from iSCSI storage in a heterogeneous computing. winBoot/i and netBoot/i can be implemented together to deliver an optimized iSCSI boot solution.

Both products are available today from a growing worldwide network of partners including Storage Solution Integrators, Distributors, OEMs, and iSCSI storage vendors.
