Emaciated Dog Found Along Bruce Trail in Halton Hills

ORANGEVILLE, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - April 19, 2013) - The Ontario SPCA is seeking information regarding a dead dog found along the Bruce Trail in Halton Hills by a hiker on April 4, 2013.

The dog was found near the parking area for the Bruce Trail on 22^nd Sideroad, Halton Hills, just west of 4^th Line.

The hiker reported the dead dog to the Town of Halton Hills who then forwarded the report to the Bruce Trail Conservancy.

On April 7, 2013, volunteers buried the dog where it was found.

On April 8, 2013, the situation was reported to the Ontario SPCA by a volunteer of the Bruce Trail Conservancy. The dog was described as being emaciated and that the front and back legs were tied.

On April 9, 2013, an Ontario SPCA Orangeville & District Agent met with a volunteer with the Bruce Trail and the dog body was exhumed.

A male, neutered, tan and white medium-sized, shorthaired dog was found with both front legs and back legs tethered together with red and white string. The dog appeared to be emaciated.

"This is an unfortunate situation and it's very sad to see a case like this," says Senior Inspector Steve Toy. "If anyone is having difficulty in providing for an animal, it's imperative that they contact their local Ontario SPCA or veterinarian."

The dog was brought directly to Guelph's Animal Health Laboratory for a necropsy.

A cause of death has yet to be found and more tests are due to be completed.
