Emap Retail Launches New Event - Careers In Retail 05, Olympia, 8th - 9th November 2005

LONDON, ENGLAND--(CCNMatthews - June. 20, 2005) -

EMAP Retail today announces the launch of a new event dedicated to the UK retail industry - Careers in Retail 2005.

Taking place in London's Olympia between the 8th and 9th November 2005, the event will showcase exciting career opportunities with some of the UK's leading retailers. The event is aimed at penultimate year students, recent graduates and current professionals.

Companies of the calibre of Debenhams, New Look, Monsoon, Orange and Sainsbury's have already signed up to participate in the inaugural event and eagerly await the opportunity to promote their varied and exciting career opportunities to an anticipated 3,000 strong visitor audience. Retailers will be promoting career opportunities for both graduates and those who have already started their retail careers with positions ranging from store management to head office roles in operations, buying and merchandising, human resources and marketing amongst others.

Careers in Retail will be working closely with colleges and universities around the country and are planning transport for interested groups of students to travel to the event.

Ruth di Mambro, Resourcing Manager, Debenhams stated, "Debenhams feel that Careers in Retail is a great place to showcase the exciting opportunities we have to offer".

Jane Basley, Retail Resourcing and Development Manager of Sainsbury's commented "Careers in Retail is a great event for Sainsbury's to market its job opportunities to an even wider audience who are interested in careers in retail."

Job seekers will also benefit from a dedicated CV surgery, advice on how to excel in assessment centre days, interview hints and tips and how to dress for success.

Ian McGarrigle, Brand Director, said: "For too long now, retailing has suffered from an image problem amongst students and graduates that makes it tough for businesses to attract, recruit and then retain the very best people. This may be changing slowly, but more has to be done if retailing is to retain its competitive edge. The Careers in Retail event is a hugely positive initiative that will bring together a broad cross section of the industry to show what an exciting, dynamic and rewarding career destination it is."

Aligned with Careers in Retail is the launch of the Rising Star Awards. Supported by Skillsmart and the BSSA, these awards aim to recognise and honour new talent in the retail industry. Philip Green, owner of Arcadia and Bhs; Mike Shearwood, UK MD Zara; Alan Giles, CEO, HMV Group and Allan Leighton, Chairman, Royal Mail and Bhs are amongst the judges who will deliberate over the entries to these prestigious awards. The event will take place on the 8th November 2005 at the Savoy hotel, London.
