Emergence Capital Promotes Kevin Spain to General Partner


SAN MATEO, CA--(Marketwire - March 29, 2011) - Emergence Capital Partners, the leading venture capital firm focused on Technology-Enabled Services with investments in such SaaS leaders as Salesforce.com and SuccessFactors, today announced that Kevin Spain has been promoted to General Partner.

For the past four years, Spain worked as Principal at Emergence Capital where he is focused on SaaS, mobile and digital media opportunities. He currently sits on the board of Veeva Systems, SupportSpace, Viglink and GroundTruth. Spain's knowledge of the enterprise and digital media sectors comes from time spent at blue-chip software companies and from his experience as an entrepreneur.

Prior to Emergence, Spain was a senior member of Microsoft's Corporate Development group where he shared responsibility for sourcing, structuring, and negotiating Microsoft's acquisitions, strategic investments, and joint ventures. Before Microsoft, he was with Electronic Arts, where he launched EA's online gaming business and later served in the Corporate Development group where he helped manage acquisition and strategic investment efforts.

Spain was also Co-Founder and CEO of Madison.com, a business he started after winning the first annual Wharton Business Plan Competition. He earned an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a BA from the University of Texas at Austin. He is a graduate of the Kauffman Fellows Program.
