The Emergency Medicine Foundation and Blue Jay Consulting Announce the Outstanding Emergency Department Director of The Year Award

Nominations Now Being Accepted

Blue Jay Consulting and the Emergency Medicine Foundation announced today that they are now accepting nominations for the newly created Outstanding Emergency Department Director of The Year Award. Current emergency department physician leaders who have made a significant impact on improving the operations of his/her department, resulting in improvements in the quality of patient care can be nominated. The announcement came today, preceding the start of the American College of Emergency Physicians Scientific Assembly in Boston.

Any member of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) or hospital leader may nominate an ACEP member for this award by completing the nomination form. Forms are available to download online at or

Other criteria for the award include that the nominee is an Active or Life member of ACEP and must currently be in a leadership position in an emergency department. The nominee must demonstrate significant contributions to the department in the following categories: Quality Patient Care, Operational Effectiveness, Education, and Community Service. The nominee will demonstrate collaborative relationships with nursing and ancillary departments to implement and improve operational and clinical standards based on evidence-based practice. The nominee will create and sustain a high degree of patient satisfaction with emergency care delivery and will implement creative and innovative strategies to address emergency department throughput.

All entries must be completed and received via e-mail or mail no later than Monday, February 1, 2010 for consideration by the selection panel.

The selection panel, which will consist of appointees from the Emergency Medicine Foundation and Blue Jay Consulting, will judge the entries, with its recommendations subject to review by the EMF Board of Trustees. The decision of the Board is final, and the Board reserves the right to make no award if there are no nominees of sufficient merit. The awardee must be present at the Emergency Department Directors Academy, Phase II, on Monday, April 26, 2010 in Dallas, TX to receive the award. If the awardee is not scheduled to attend this course, travel arrangements will be provided.
