Fourth Term for Sault Ste. Marie teacher Attention: Assignment Editor, City Editor, Education Editor, News Editor, Government/Political Affairs Editor TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 15, 2005) - Emily Noble, a teacher with the Algoma District School Board, was acclaimed to her fourth term as president of the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) at the Federation's annual meeting in Toronto today.

"We have much to be proud of as an organization. We have become the foremost teacher union in Canada and a valued partner in the broader labour movement," Noble told delegates. "This past year we successfully negotiated 200 minutes of preparation time in all our teacher collective agreements. We did this by standing together. I am proud of what we have achieved together.

"Elementary teachers have entered a new era. We are not looking for conflict. We are looking for support. Work with us and together we will build a dynamic, effective, public education system," Noble said.

During her career with the Algoma District School Board, Noble taught all grades from kindergarten to eight, as well as special education. She holds principal's qualifications as well as primary and special education specialist qualifications.

Noble believes that it is the teacher's role to give students the confidence and the skills to achieve their goals. She credits Algoma's First Nations' communities, many of whose children were in her classrooms, with teaching her to listen carefully to others before deciding on a course of action.

The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) represents 65,000 public elementary school teachers and education workers across Ontario and is the largest teacher union in Canada outside of Quebec.
