A key component of the "Healthier Washington" initiative is consumer engagement and empowering people to participate in decision making as it relates to their health and the health of their families. As part of its initiative, the Washington State Health Care Authority developed a strict certification process to ensure the consistency and quality of the health information presented to patients and their families. To receive certification, a decision aid must include documentation of user testing, show unbiased presentation of treatment options, and demonstrate a thorough clinical review of health information, among other criteria.
