Emmi Solutions Participates in Health Literacy Month

The 5th Annual Series Raises Awareness and Invites the Community to Share Their Perspectives

CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwired - Oct 1, 2014) -  Emmi Solutions, a leader in outcomes-driven patient engagement, is devoting the month of October to discussing Health Literacy on their blog, "Engaging the Patient," with various industry experts contributing posts. This year, the assorted authors will look at how health literacy plays a role in too much or too little treatment along with challenges faced by clinicians and patients alike on understanding the latest screening or medication news and impact on their day-to-day lives.

Among the contributors included are Gary Schwitzer of HealthNews Review, Shannon Brownlee, author of Overtreated, and Becca Rothschild of the Choosing Wisely® campaign, who will be sharing their insights on how information is made available to the public, how it affects what are often life-changing treatment decisions, and how we can do a better job of helping people understand and navigate this mire of information and opinions. The theme of treating pain and challenges around accurately describing pain will also be examined by Dr. Judy Paice, Dr. Amy Bucher, and patients like Kerry O'Connell.

Executive Director of Patient Engagement for Emmi Solutions and blog moderator Geri Lynn Blaumblatt says, "While these perspectives are valuable, we know no one campaign, blog series or story will address or solve these challenges so we're hoping to spur additional conversations or insights that we aren't able to include." Baumblatt, a health literacy expert, has overseen the creation of multimedia, interactive programs that foster patient engagement and Shared Decision Making for over a decade.
