Empire Beauty Schools® Celebrate 10 Year Milestone of Providing $2 Million in Cash and Donations to Fight Domestic Violence

Since 2005, Empire Gives Back Has Been Raising Funds to Support Local Women's Shelters in 21 States

POTTSVILLE, PA--(Marketwired - September 22, 2015) - In the 10 years since Empire Beauty Schools began a campaign designed to aid victims of domestic violence, students and staff have raised more than $2 million in cash and donations toward the cause.

Through its Empire Gives Back campaign, the cosmetology school system has provided financial and other forms of support to nearly 100 local, anti-domestic violence programs across 21 states.

All Empire Education Group schools, including Empire Beauty Schools and Hair Design Schools, have a local shelter or program they've "adopted." The schools raise money, collect donation items, and provide complimentary beauty services to clients of these shelters and programs who are rebuilding their lives after domestic violence.

In the 10 years since its creation, Empire Gives Back has provided $1.2 million in complimentary beauty services to women and children in need.

Additionally, more than $1.1 million dollars in cash donations have been made to these local programs. Schools do various fundraisers throughout the year, culminating with Empire's annual National Day of Beauty, a system-wide fundraiser in which 100% of proceeds from a school's student salon goes to their local shelter. This year's event will be held Saturday, October 17, 2015.

"Domestic violence is an issue we tackle straight on," says Frank Schoeneman, Chairman & CEO of Empire Education Group. "Beyond fundraising and local shelter support, we also support the Cut It Out program, a curriculum of special training designed to teach cosmetologists how to recognize the signs of domestic abuse. This is an epidemic that surprisingly often reveals itself in the chair of a stylist. Whether through a shared confidence or visible signs of abuse, hairdressers are often faced with this issue and without training, are unsure how to respond. I am proud to say that our students are equipped with the information they need to comfortably point victims to the National Domestic Violence Hotline."

Empire Education Group also offers educational endowments to any shelter residents interested in attending beauty school.

As the leading cause of injury to women, domestic violence affects 1 in every 4 women in the United States.
