Employment Insurance Benefits During the Postal Disruption

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 24, 2011) - Service Canada would like to remind Employment Insurance (EI) recipients that Canada Post Corporation (CPC) and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) are not delivering EI cheques during the postal disruption. Employment Insurance recipients who normally receive their benefits by mail must go in person to pick up their cheques.

Information on where EI recipients can pick up their cheques and what identification they must bring with them can be found by calling 1-800-206-7218, 1-800-O-Canada or EI recipients will need to go to Service Canada Centres or alternate distribution centres to pick up their benefits.

EI recipients who receive their benefit payments through direct deposit are not affected by this postal disruption. Direct deposit is the standard way of delivering payments to Canadians; it is secure, convenient and reliable.

EI recipients who have a My Service Canada Account can sign up for direct deposit:

Call: 1-800-206-7218

TTY: 1-800-529-3742

Visit: a Service Canada Centre

NOTE: Please continue to check with 1-800-206-7218 or for up-to-date information on the postal disruption and EI cheque pick-up.
