Empowering Minds™ Announces New Board of Directors

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - June 17, 2013) - Empowering Mindsis pleased to announce the appointment of Heather Douglas, Henry Dunfield, Wilf Gobert, Art Fopma and Grant McLarnon as the new members of our Board of Directors. The board members join existing board member Hal Walker.

Heather Douglas is the Founder and President of Strategic Public Affairs. Previously, she was the President and CEO of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce (2005-2010). Heather has more than 20 years' experience in journalism, public affairs, directed media, government, crisis communications, and image and reputation management for a number of Canadian companies. Heather has co-authored two books and has spoken at numerous seminars and conferences. Her topics range from energy and communications to negotiation strategies.

Henry Dunfield is the President of HD Energy and Investments. He has over 30 years' experience in building companies that service the Western Canadian Basin. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Calgary and recently won the Canadian Youth Business Foundation Mentor of the Year award for Alberta.

Wilf Gobert is currently the Chairman of Calgary Economic Development. Prior to this he served as Managing Director of the Research Department and Vice Chairman at Peters & Co. Limited (1979-2002). He was also an executive member of the Calgary Society of Financial Analysts (1980-1984) and it's President in (1984). He is a Senior Fellow of Energy Studies at the Centre for Energy Policy Studies with The Fraser Institute. Wilf received his M.B.A. in Finance from McMaster University in 1976 and B.Sc. Honours in Mathematics from the University of Windsor in 1971.

Grant McLarnon is a Managing Partner of Adxstudio Inc. He is also the Senior Training Coach for Empowering Minds™. Grant has successfully delivered the Empowering Minds Program to many hundreds of youth over many years. In addition, Grant is skilled at streamlining and improving business processes that build solid customer relationships, while communicating both supportively and effectively. Grant received his MBA from Athabasca University in 2005.

Art Fopma is the Executive Vice President at Werklund Capital Corporation. Prior to this he had a 35 year career with the Bank of Montreal. Art is also a Director of Hull and Family Services. Art received his CFP designation in 1999.

Hal Walker has been active in the real estate and resort development industry since 1974. He is CEO of The Meredith Michael Company and is also Chairman of TIGER 21 Calgary. Hal has been very active in the community and politics for over 35 years, having served as Chair of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce, and Alberta College of Art and Design. Hal is also a board member of the World Wildlife Fund and past President of the Alberta Wildrose Party. He studied Political Science at the University of Saskatchewan and graduated from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (1974) in Business Administration.

Empowering Minds ™ announces the resignation of Deanna Werklund and Bruce Calvin from the Board.
