EmpowHER Offers FREE Resources for Millions of Women Suffering With Endometriosis

Site Provides Support for Women With This Common Condition During Endometriosis Awareness Month

SCOTTSDALE, AZ--(Marketwire - March 19, 2010) -  EmpowHER, a health media company for women, is offering free access to world-class health information as well as a community of experts and advocates to the 90 million women suffering with endometriosis -- a treatable condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus is found elsewhere in the body.

According to the Endometriosis Research Center, this condition affects 10 percent of women (approximately 5.5 million in the U.S.) during their reproductive years. Symptoms can range from mild to severe and include cramping and pelvic pain, pain during sex, heavy periods, lower back pain, infertility, and/or miscarriage.

For the women suffering with endometriosis, EmpowHER has created a dedicated resource page on its site where women can find topical medical articles, videos and guides to additional online resources.

"For millions of women hungry for information on endometriosis, having a one-stop resource that combines expert advice, medical research and peer-to-peer support is invaluable," says Michelle King Robson, EmpowHER's Founder and Chairman. "Since this is an ongoing condition that impacts so many women, it is important that they all know we are here for them and will provide all the resources at our disposal to stop their silent suffering."

"There are some treatment options that may help women with endometriosis who have debilitating painful sexual activity," notes Dr. Irwin Goldstein, an EmpowHER Medical Advisory Board member who is Director of San Diego Sexual Medicine at Alvarado Hospital and the Secretary of the International Society for the Study of Women's Sexual Health. "New research is constantly being performed in this area including hormone therapy and laproscopic excision of the endometriosis-like cells on the uterosacral ligament. If a woman is suffering from sexual dysfunction from endometriosis-like symptoms, I suggest that she go to her doctor to discuss what treatment options may be available to her."
