EmpowHER and Women's Health Foundation Join Forces to Support Women's Health Through Global Web Initiative

1000Women's Campaign Calls on One Million to Share Their Health Stories, Raise Awareness and Funds for Women-Specific Health Research

SCOTTSDALE, AZ--(Marketwire - October 18, 2010) -  Two of the country's leading resources in women's health, EmpowHER and the Women's Health Foundation, have joined forces to support women's health advocacy through a global web effort called the 1000Women campaign.

The campaign seeks to engage 1,000 women who will then share their personal health story with another 1,000 women. The campaign's goal is to get 1,000,000 women sharing their most personal health issues with friends, family and even strangers. Women can do this by creating profiles on where they can enter their story and also include their own pictures and videos. These profiles can easily be shared via email or through social networking tools like Facebook, Twitter, and many more. EmpowHER also has pledged $50,000 in funds to support much needed research in women's health as part of the campaign.

"We're excited to partner with Women's Health Foundation, a phenomenal organization that shares our dedication to providing resources women can really use and building caring communities to improve women's health," said Michelle King Robson, Founder, Chairperson and CEO of EmpowHER. is the site King Robson wishes she had when she was sick after having a hysterectomy and was desperately looking for answers. Launched just 23 months ago, the site now has more than a million unique visitors each month from women sharing their most intimate health conditions and then connecting with others.

"Women's Health Foundation is honored to be a part of such an important campaign. As a patient and advocate, sharing my story with the world has helped hundreds of women who are battling pelvic health disorders. It's thrilling to imagine the possibilities of how we can help 1,000,000 women," said Missy Lavender, Executive Director of the Women's Health Foundation.

Much like King Robson, Missy Lavender started the Women's Health Foundation after experiencing her own health struggle. Lavender started the foundation to bring attention to pelvic health, a sensitive and often stigmatized women's health issue. After having her first child, Lavender began experiencing urinary incontinence (SUI) and urge incontinence (UI), which affect millions of women. After undergoing a series of treatments by various specialists, including surgery for a prolapsed bladder and uterus, she finally found relief for the majority of her symptoms and took back control over her life. During her quest for treatment, Lavender discovered the limited resources available to women experiencing the same conditions. Bringing a focus and determination that has helped her succeed in other aspects of her life, she set out to help herself and other women to regain control of their pelvic health and fitness.
