EMS Satellite Networks Offers New DVB-RCS System Performance ...

EMS Satellite Networks Offers New DVB-RCS System Performance Upgrades; Attention: Business/Financial Editor MONTREAL--(CCNMatthews - Sept. 7, 2005) - MONTREAL, Sept. 7, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- EMS Satellite Networks, a division of EMS Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:ELMG), has announced today that it is offering several new DVB-RCS system performance upgrades. These upgrades are designed to lower both operational costs and capital costs for EMS customers, as well as to increase system capabilities. Upgrades are now available for delivery.

Available upgrades include:

-- SatNet Virtual Telephony(tm) Optimized VoIP System
-- SatNet NetManager(tm) Network Management System
-- SatNet Virtual Service Provider(tm) Overlay
 -- SatNet Clear Sky(tm) Rain-Fade Countermeasure System
 -- Multi-Satellite Operation
 -- 1MSym/s Outbound
 -- 4Mbps Inbound

SatNet Virtual Telephony(tm) Optimized VoIP System -- EMS Satellite Networks now offers the most efficient Voice-over-IP (VoIP) scheduling system available in the market today for two-way satellite communications. This feature emulates the behavior of circuit-switched telephony using standard, packet-switched VoIP technology. Operators benefit from significant improvements in bandwidth efficiency while maintaining voice quality in congested, mixed media networks. In addition, the circuit-switched behavior dramatically simplifies network provisioning analysis.

SatNet NetManager(tm) Network Management System -- The NetManager(tm) is EMS's, new and completely re-designed network management system. The NetManager(tm) includes the Subscriber Manager and Configuration Manager, as well as EMS's unique SLA Manager and QoS Manager functions, each of which is presented through a user-friendly GUI.

SatNet Virtual Service Provider(tm) Overlay -- This is an added feature to EMS's new NetManager(tm), which allows tens of service providers to securely and independently share the resources of a single hub through remote connections. Hub owners will now be able to offer the industry-leading performance of their EMS DVB-RCS hubs to others at attractive per user/remote capital cost. This investment could in turn be used to minimize the initial per-subscriber investment required by hub owners.

SatNet Clear Sky(tm) Rain-Fade Countermeasure System -- EMS has offered powerful rain-fade countermeasures, designed to support Ka-band services, for the last several years. SatNet Clear Sky(tm) extends this capability to the point where operators may now provision networks assuming clear-sky (and/or beam-center performance) link budgets in any frequency band, thereby increasing network capacity, increasing system availability and/or reducing the remote terminal antenna size and/or transmitter power required in many networks.

Multi-Satellite Operation -- A single EMS DVB-RCS hub is now capable of supporting multiple satellites in a range of possible configurations. This feature significantly increases the operational flexibility and coverage of EMS DVB-RCS hubs, providing an even greater return on initial capital investment in a hub.

1MSym/s Outbound -- EMS now offers smaller operators the option of starting with outbound carrier sizes as small as 1MSym/s, thereby reducing operational costs for these smaller operators.

4Mbps Inbound -- EMS now offers the unique capability of supporting very large inbound (or return link) carriers at rates as high as 4Mbps. These inbound data rates are currently being offered for a number of applications related to broadcasting, emergency management and defense.

"We believe that these new features once again re-affirm our performance leadership within DVB-RCS and the VSAT industry in general," says Don Osborne, senior vice president and general manager, EMS Satellite Networks. "These are examples of the continuing investment we are making to offer better value to our customers."
