EMT Gains Expanded Accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025 Standard

MORTON GROVE, IL -- (MARKET WIRE) -- May 1, 2007 -- Environmental Monitoring and Technologies, Inc. (EMT) is pleased to announce expanded accreditation, by the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA), in accordance with the recognized International Standard ISO/IEC 17025:2005 General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories.

EMT provides testing of consumer electronic and electrical equipment to support those companies seeking data to determine their compliance with the Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS) Directive in the European Union (EU), which came into effect on July 1, 2006. EMT's scope of accreditation now includes all of the RoHS-regulated substances, an extensive list of metals beyond the RoHS list, and analytes determined by x-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectrometry.

Accreditation to the ISO/IEC standard provides added assurance that the laboratory data generated by EMT provides a valuable "due diligence" effort for those companies seeking scientifically sound data for RoHS compliance and verification efforts. "While there is no currently required accreditation for the appropriate testing of consumer electronics for RoHS compliance purposes," according to EMT's Product Ecology Manager, Kris Erickson, "the ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation is widely recognized by regulating authorities both within the EU member states as well as others." The ISO/IEC accreditation demonstrates technical competence for a defined scope and the operation of a laboratory quality management system.

EMT is located in Morton Grove, Illinois and has provided analytical testing and sampling services to clients worldwide for more than twenty-three years. EMT performs RoHS-related testing in general accordance with the test methodologies as developed by the International Electrotechnical Committee (IEC).
