TULSA, OK--(Marketwired - Oct 20, 2016) - The FBI, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and other federal and state agencies have issued public warnings citing increased levels of Telecom Denial of Service (TDoS) attacks against public and private organizations. Enacomm, a leading provider of intelligent customer interactions solutions and security technology, today announced its partnership with USA Digital, a provider of facility-based TDM and IP services, to fight back against TDoS attacks, or unauthorized users attempting to flood phone systems with calls in order to prevent legitimate users from accessing the network.
This type of attack may be used as a security 'phishing' expedition or a means to exploit an organization's infrastructure to profit from Toll Free or International Toll fraud schemes, or may be motivated by retribution against an organization. For TDoS, attackers and fraudsters may also leave calls open for long durations, causing a negative impact to the cost structure of the organization being targeted.
"TDoS attacks have wreaked havoc across the U.S.," commented Enacomm Chief Executive Officer Michael Boukadakis. "Criminals use low-cost VoIP tools to bombard an institution's phone and IVR systems with electronically generated calls in order to disrupt normal business, terrorize the organization, or carry out fraudulent activities."
Boukadakis added, "Some of the largest and most sophisticated financial institutions in the U.S. have fallen prey to fraudsters creating phone system chaos to steal corporate or customer account information."
In partnership with USA Digital Communications, Enacomm has developed eTDoS Guard™ for advanced call validation to identify key markers included in call streams at the carrier level, before the calls access the organization's network. Examples of markers include internationally-originated calls, a repetitive originating IP, and unusually long call activity. USA Digital implements, on behalf of the organization, pre-determined action or routing schemas to thwart attacks. In essence, the carrier and the client join forces to preserve the organization's infrastructure and unauthorized expenses.
"Without eTDoS Guard's advanced call validation, TDoS attacks catch organizations standing on their heels," shared Richard Costello, President of USA Digital Communications. "An organization may have procedures in place to stop or re-route suspicious traffic, but these plans typically are contingent upon an attacker first accessing the organization's network infrastructure. The organization is responding to an attack in progress."
Prevention service eTDoS Guard™ automatically senses when an attack occurs, stops the attack by diverting the unwanted calls, and mitigates any damage before the system is overtaken by the attack. To find out more, go to www.enacommweb.net/products.html.
