Enbridge Celebrates Sarnia Solar Project Completion With Two Community Investments

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Oct. 7, 2010) - Enbridge Inc. (TSX:ENB) (NYSE:ENB) achieved commercial completion of the 80-megawatt Sarnia Solar Project in September 2010, making the project the largest operating photovoltaic facility in the world. In celebration of this achievement, Enbridge today announced several significant investments in the Sarnia community.

"Enbridge has been a part of this community for many years," said Bob Simpson, General Manager of Enbridge Ontario Wind Power. "We've got a natural gas storage facility here as well as our liquids pipelines operations. So, with the Sarnia Solar Project, we've got one more reason to celebrate our involvement with Sarnia."

The first investment Enbridge announced was $50,000 toward retrofitting Sarnia's historically significant Thom building. Once complete, the building will showcase Gallery Lambton's $12.8 million collection of Canadian art and provide much-needed space for arts programming for the community.

"We think the refurbished Thom building will invigorate Gallery Lambton, making it an important centre for arts education and enjoyment," said Brian Black, Enbridge's General Manager, Liquids Pipelines, Eastern Region. "Enbridge views investments in the arts to be an important part of community building and part of our responsibility to be a good neighbour. We're proud to play a role in helping Sarnia flourish."

Enbridge's second community contribution was an investment in the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority. The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority includes the Sydenham River watershed and 13 smaller watersheds that drain directly into southern Lake Huron, the St. Clair River and northeastern Lake St. Clair. The Authority implements programs to reduce the risk to life and property from flooding and erosion; water and land stewardship; forestry; wildlife habitat creation and outdoor recreation.

With Enbridge's investment, the Authority will launch the Lambton County Naturalization Initiative, under which Enbridge will commit 185 acres of company-owned properties to the common goal of reforestation and naturalization in Lambton County. Enbridge maintains one of Canada's largest underground gas storage operations in Lambton County. Some of the surface properties that Enbridge owns above the storage caverns are a natural fit for reforestation.

"Under the long term management of the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority - and with support from St. Clair Township and Lambton County, we are confident that these lands will add to the county's goal of returning more of its land to a sustainable natural state," said Jim Sanders, Enbridge's Director, Storage Operations.

Enbridge announced these two investments at a community event organized to celebrate the completion of the Sarnia Solar Project.
