Enbridge CN Tower Climb for United Way Climbs to a New Fundraising Record

More than $2.2 million raised to support United Way

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 28, 2011) - Enbridge Gas Distribution (TSX:ENB) (NYSE:ENB) would like to thank the more than 11,000 climbers who scaled 1,776 steps during the Enbridge CN Tower Climb for United Way. More than $2.2 million raised by climbers, a new fundraising record, will help support a network of community agencies affiliated with United Way, as well as help United Way improve life in Toronto's inner suburban neighbourhoods.

"I would like to personally thank everyone who joined me in tackling the Tower in this year's Enbridge CN Tower Climb for United Way including the 150 members of the Enbridge team who made the journey with me," said Guy Jarvis, President, Enbridge Gas Distribution. "Whether you climbed yourself or supported a climber, you have made a significant contribution to our city. United Way works to create a better community for all Torontonians, and the support for the Climb has been overwhelming. We should all feel very proud of what we accomplished together."

An annual event that attracts athletes and everyday Torontonians looking to make a difference in their community, the Enbridge CN Tower Climb for United Way supports a network of United Way agencies across Toronto that provides vital human services and moves people from poverty to possibility. But the impact of the Climb extends even further. Funds raised also support strategies aimed at improving under-served neighbourhoods by focusing on systemic barriers that limit opportunity for a good life.

"I am so proud of the thousands of people who came together this weekend to strengthen our city," said Susan McIsaac, President and CEO, United Way Toronto. "There remains great uncertainty in our community and many people who were struggling in good economic times are falling even further behind. It's events like this that demonstrate the care and compassion that exists here in Toronto."

"Our company motto in 1848 was 'for the good of the community,' and we still live by that value," said Enbridge's Janet Holder, Chair of the United Way Toronto 2011 fundraising campaign. "United Way brings together the efforts of different organizations and people with the goal of building a better city. Through the Enbridge CN Tower Climb for United Way, we're building that city, step by step."

The public can still sponsor a climber until November 18, 2011 by visiting www.unitedwaytoronto.com/climbforunitedway.
