Encouraging Gold Results in First Phase of Diamond Drilling at Saganaga Gold Project

THUNDER BAY, ON -- (MARKET WIRE) -- January 18, 2007 -- Benton Resources Corp. (TSX-V: BTC) ("Benton") is pleased to announce that it has received results from six of the eleven diamond drill holes completed by Teck Cominco Limited ("Teck Cominco") on Benton's Saganaga gold project located 120 km west of Thunder Bay, Ontario. The initial results confirm the presence of a large gold-bearing structural zone along the margins of a mafic intrusion. The highlight of assay results from the first six drill holes comes from the Starr zone area where drill hole SAG06-11 intersected 5.36 grams per tonne (gpt) gold (Au) over 20 meters (m) starting from surface. The 20 m composite contained numerous individual assays greater than 1.0 gpt Au with the highest returning 48.7 gpt Au over 1 m.

The 2000 m eleven-hole drill program was designed to test a large induced polarization (IP) chargeability anomaly that extends for over 1 km in strike length. Benton is encouraged by these early results and optimistic about the potential of the Saganaga/ Q-9 properties to host a significant gold resource. Assays from the remaining five diamond drill holes are pending and a table of significant results from the eleven drill holes will be reported when all results are received. A drill hole plan map will be posted on Benton's website shortly. Teck Cominco recently initiated a program consisting of line cutting and an IP geophysical survey on the surrounding Q-9 gold project that was recently optioned to Teck Cominco as well.
