It's always fun to brag that you had your car washed by a mayor, police officer, media personality or even . . . Marty The Marmot. And when your donation also goes to a cause as vital as Our Place, your bragging rights double.

On Saturday, Sept. 6 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., local personalities from around Greater Victoria will be taking over the courtyard at Our Place to hold the 3rd annual Splish Splash Charity Carwash. With a suggested donation of $10, this is an event that is guaranteed to put a smile on one's face as well as on the faces of our less-fortunate neighbours.

"We always have fun," says organizer and city councillor Charlayne Thornton-Joe. "Local celebrities join forces with politicians, media, fire and police departments, team mascots, business owners and more to get soapy and raise money."

While the vehicles are being washed, Our Place will offer guided tours of the facility for anyone who is curious about how the unique community centre manages to serve over 1,200 meals per day, plus provide hot showers, computer labs, Outreach and Housing support, and much, much more to the area's most vulnerable population.

"The majority of our funding comes from individuals and businesses," says Don Evans, executive director of Our Place. "The carwash is an opportunity to raise some much needed funds for our winter programs and services, plus it gives the community a fun way to drive down and see exactly why Our Place is such a vital hub for those experiencing poverty and homelessness."

As an added bonus, the Victoria Conservatory of Music is hosting an open house, with music, tours and other fun events that are sure to spill over to the Our Place courtyard.

A special lunch will also be served to the Our Place family members from 11:30am - 12:30pm. A local family will be cooking and serving an Indian lunch in memory of their daughter, Subha Gill, who lost her battle to cancer in 2012.

Event: Splish Splash Charity Carwash
When: Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014, 9:00am - 2:00pm
Where: Our Place Society, 919 Pandora Ave, Victoria

Our Place is an inner-city community centre serving Greater Victoria's most vulnerable: working poor, impoverished elderly, mentally and physically challenged, addicted and the homeless. Individuals and businesses provide the majority of financial support for its programs and services. Our Place provides 45 transitional housing units, over 1,200 meals per day, hot showers, free clothing, counseling and outreach services. Most importantly, it provides a sense of hope and belonging to our neighbours in need.
