Energistics Announces Game Changer for Oil and Gas Data Exchange Standards

HOUSTON, TX--(Marketwired - Jul 30, 2015) -  Energistics has released the Energistics Transfer Protocol (ETP) v1.0 to the oil and gas industry. ETP enables the efficient transfer of data between applications. Initially used for real-time data, it is anticipated that ETP will be expanded to include functionality for historical data queries.

ETP was envisioned and designed to meet the unique needs of the upstream oil and gas industry and to facilitate the exchange of data in the EnergyML family of data standards, which includes WITSML™, PRODML™, and RESQML™. ETP will replace TCP/IP WITS level 0 data transfers with a more efficient and modern simple-to-implement alternative.

"ETP defines a discovery mechanism so that data receivers do not have to poll for data and can receive new data as soon as it is available from a data provider," said Jay Hollingsworth, Chief Technology Officer of Energistics. "This is a game changer for oil companies and service providers."

Energistics is a global, not-for-profit, membership organization that serves as the facilitator, custodian and advocate for the development and adoption of technical open data exchange standards in the upstream oil and gas industry. Uniquely designed to unite upstream industry professionals in a neutral and collaborative facilitation environment, Energistics membership consists of integrated, independent and national oil companies, oilfield service companies, software vendors, system integrators, regulatory agencies and the global standards user community.
