Energy Systems Group, LLC to Modernize Independence (Missouri) School District Facilities Using a Self-Funding Program

ST. LOUIS, MO -- (MARKET WIRE) -- July 6, 2006 -- Independence School District (ISD) will undergo a number of facility renovations over the next few months to dramatically reduce energy consumption with the help of Energy Systems Group, LLC (ESG). ISD has contracted with ESG to implement an $8 million energy efficiency and facility modernization program that improves the ISD's heating and cooling systems, classroom lighting, water conservation and building automation systems at several schools serving the community.

ESG will also install new drainage systems and artificial athletic turf at the football fields for William Chrisman and Truman High Schools. These new synthetic playing fields will increase the opportunity for teams to practice and enhance player safety while also reducing maintenance, turf care, and water expenses for ISD. Additionally, Henley Aquatic Center will receive new energy efficient heating, ventilation and cooling system as well as plumbing, electrical and pool decking replacements to significantly extend the useful life of the facility.

Once installed, the building improvements will reduce energy consumption, maintenance costs and utility expenses for the district while helping to improve the learning environment and comfort of the students and staff. ESG and ISD are using an energy savings performance contract making it possible for ISD to use cost savings generated by the project to fund and pay for the improvements over time. This process allows the ISD administration to contract for the facility improvements without using precious capital dollars or raising new funds.

"Upgrading these school buildings is a very exciting project for Energy Systems Group and we are proud to partner with Independence School District," noted Steve Pride, Regional Manager for ESG. "The enhancements to the community's schools will dramatically improve energy efficiency while reducing operation and utility costs for the district for years to come."

In addition to the physical improvements, ESG is providing an on-site energy and technical expert dedicated to the ISD. This expert will help to promote energy and operational efficiency, provide on-site training, and directly assist the ISD administration and staff in their cost reduction strategies.

"Our school administration is faced with the challenges for aging buildings, increased utility costs and shrinking budgets. ESG provided us an opportunity to improve our schools, reduce our long-term expenses and maximize our existing funding. This is a wonderful means to continue to provide quality education for our community and to support our goals of maximizing resources to facilitate learning," said Mr. Brian Mitchell, Assistant Superintendent of Business & Finance, Independence School District.

ESG is providing comprehensive turn-key services to ISD including design, project management, implementation, financing, retro-commissioning, measurement and verification which makes it easier for the staff to focus on accomplishing their primary missions. Upon completion of the one year facility modernization project, students, teachers and school administrators will enjoy a more comfortable and efficient working and learning environment.
