Enerpulse Technologies Forms Technical Advisory Committee

Releases Comprehensive Video Explaining Pulstar Spark Plug Technology

ALBUQUERQUE, NM--(Marketwired - Aug 11, 2015) - Pulstar Spark Plugs, manufactured by Enerpulse Technologies (OTCQB: ENPT) and developed with the help of a US Department of Energy Laboratory, increase engine performance by using plasma to improve fuel burn through the use of its proprietary plasma spark plug technology called n-PAC®. Enerpulse announced today that Dr. Claude Phipps will be joining Dr. Timothy Jacobs on the Enerpulse Technical Advisory Committee. They will work closely with company founder and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Lou Camilli and Principal Investigator Wes Helgeson to further advance the underlying science of plasma-assisted combustion employed by Enerpulse's Pulstar Spark Plugs.

Recently, the Technical Advisory Committee has worked with Enerpulse's Director of Marketing and Communications, Heather Tausch, to develop an animation that describes Pulstar's plasma-assisted combustion technology in an easy to understand video. The video also features actual footage of Pulstar's plasma-forming pulse and improved fuel burn captured by AVL, a certified testing laboratory frequently used by most major automotive manufacturers. It is available on YouTube at https://youtu.be/w962iS-7ELQ.

Dr. Claude Phipps is a plasma physicist and currently serves as managing partner for Photonic Associates LLC, which specializes in laser space propulsion systems and concepts. Dr. Phipps holds a Ph.D. from Stanford University, and obtained both a Master and Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Prior to joining the Enerpulse Technical advisory Committee, Dr. Phipps accompanied Enerpulse CTO Lou Camilli to Japan in early 2015 to present the Pulstar technology to several Automotive Original Equipment Manufacturers. "Pulstar's technology was extremely well received by the scientists and engineers of the OEMs we met with. They were excited by the implications of this technology."

According to Dr. Phipps, "My discussions with these potential Japanese customers highlighted the need to develop a video that clearly explained complex subjects such as plasma physics, energy compression, and nano-plasma combustion chemistry to general audiences. I'm excited that Enerpulse now has this available and I believe it helps explain the benefits of plasma-assisted combustion technology in a clearly defined manner."

Dr. Timothy Jacobs is the undergraduate program director and assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Texas A&M University. Dr. Jacobs received his Master and Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Ph.D. in mechanical engineering at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. In addition to serving on Enerpulse's technical advisory committee since 2012, Dr. Jacobs has also published several papers with Enerpulse CTO Lou Camilli regarding the benefits of using pulsed power technology in an internal combustion engine. Their most recent paper, High Power Discharge Combustion Effects on Fuel Consumption, Emissions, and Catalyst Heating, was published in the Society of Automotive Engineers International for the Powertrain, Fuels & Lubricants meeting in late 2014. The paper was co-authored by Matthias Neubauer a Project Manager for AVL, the aforementioned certified automotive OEM laboratory that tested Pulstar Spark Plugs.

Enerpulse Principal Investigator Wes Helgeson worked with Pulsed Power technology, the principle technology used by Pulstar Spark Plugs to enable plasma-assisted combustion, at Sandia National Labs for 19 years prior to joining Enerpulse. According to Lou Camilli, "The Labs employ the world's top experts in the field of pulsed power technology. The U.S. Department of Energy contractor has provided assistance to us twice, helping us create the technology currently used in Pulstar Spark Plugs. We are very fortunate to have Wes, one of their top experts, working for Enerpulse and as a liaison to our technology committee." Sandia National Labs was also the first to purchase Camilli's initial capacitor for use in their Z machine to ensure all 14 lasers are triggered at precisely the same time.
