Enersource Honours Mayor Hazel McCallion Through Dedication of Municipal Substation

MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 16, 2008) - Enersource Corporation officially dedicated a state-of-the-art municipal substation today in Streetsville in honour of Mayor Hazel McCallion's 38 years of service as a utility commissioner and board member.

Enersource Chair Norm Loberg lauded her achievements today at a celebration to dedicate the substation facility to the Mayor. "Mayor McCallion is not only a pillar of our community, she built it," said Mr. Loberg. "Very few people have the drive and stamina to serve a city like Mississauga for 38 years and the Mayor has done so with class and dignity that all residents and elected officials can aspire to."

Throughout her 38 years of continuous service, Hazel McCallion has played a major role in overseeing the growth and strength of Mississauga's power infrastructure. She first began her service as a Hydro Commissioner with Streetsville P.U.C. in 1970 and then served as a Commissioner with the amalgamated Mississauga Hydro Electric Commission. She continues to serve on Enersource Corporation's Board of Directors.

"I am honoured to be associated with this facility. I have been involved in the electricity industry since I first became involved in municipal politics. We know that providing reliable electricity is the cornerstone to building thriving communities and businesses," said Mayor McCallion. "It has been a pleasure working with Enersource management and employees and I look forward to being involved in this industry for many years to come."

The Hazel McCallion Municipal Substation, with a capacity is 40 megawatts, distributes electricity to several thousand customers in the village of Streetsville and surrounding areas. The City of Mississauga's electricity demand is growing at a rate of two to three per cent annually. Despite investments in modern infrastructure such as this key municipal substation, Enersource has maintained some of the lowest electrical rates in Ontario.

Craig Fleming, President and CEO of Enersource Corporation also spoke to Mayor McCallion's tenure and accomplishments. "This substation, which will reliably serve local residents and businesses for many years, is dedicated to Mayor Hazel McCallion's leadership and invaluable contribution to the successful operation of Enersource as one of the safest and most reliable distributors of electrical power not only in the province of Ontario but North America," said Mr. Fleming.
