Engaging Industry: PWGSC and CADSI to Host Industry Day for FWSAR Project

GATINEAU, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Oct. 16, 2012) - Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC), together with the Canadian Association of Defence and Security Industries (CADSI), will host an Industry Engagement Day on October 17, 2012, for members of the aerospace industry interested in being potential suppliers of aircraft for the Fixed-Wing Search and Rescue Aircraft Replacement (FWSAR) Project.

"Industry engagement is a key element in successful complex procurements," said the Honourable Rona Ambrose, Minister of Public Works and Government Services and Minister for Status of Women. "Continuous consultation allows the Government to better understand what industry has to offer, and enables us to refine our processes in order to ensure that we obtain the best service or product for the job, while ensuring value for money."

"By fulfilling the commitment to acquire this new fleet, we are supporting the Royal Canadian Air Force in its vital search and rescue role for decades to come," said the Honourable Bernard Valcourt, Associate Minister of National Defence and Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency) (La Francophonie). "This project is an excellent example of how industry can offer innovative solutions for our requirements and play a key role in the long-term support of the fleet, while at the same time creating high-quality jobs across Canada."

"Our Government is leveraging our major defence and security procurements to provide sustainable, high-value work for Canadian companies," said the Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of Industry. "Through the Industrial and Regional Benefits Policy, we are maximizing access to international business opportunities and improving the commercialization of innovative Canadian technology."

October 17 marks the beginning of three days of one-on-one meetings between potential aircraft suppliers and representatives from PWGSC, National Defence, and Industry Canada, during which feedback will be sought on the procurement process, and requirements. Information and feedback collected through the one-on-one meetings will be used to inform the development of a draft Request for Proposal.

Using an innovative approach, CADSI is facilitating industry teaming in relation to this Government of Canada procurement. The CADSI-hosted portion of the industry engagement session will bring together industry members to identify potential linkages, and opportunities for partnering to respond to the FWSAR procurement.
