Engine USA Agencies Deep Focus and Noise Join Forces

Deep Focus Adds Leader in Marketing to Millennials, Enhancing Its Already Established Position as Digital-First Marketing Leader

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - Nov 12, 2014) - Engine Group announced that two of its primary US-based agencies, Deep Focus and Noise, will unite to become one of the most comprehensive digital and social media marketing agencies in the industry, effective immediately. The combined entity will be known as Deep Focus.

According to John Bernbach, President, Engine USA, "Merging the digital marketing prowess of Deep Focus with the youth and millennial marketing expertise of Noise is another step in fulfilling Engine's promise to provide clients with best-in-class communications expertise." Bernbach added, "Clients want the best in each discipline, this merger enhances Deep Focus' ability to do just that."

Already a force in digital marketing, Deep Focus is a full-service marketing agency that works with brands to help them resonate with consumers whom increasingly live beyond the reach of advertising. Founded in 2002, Deep Focus was acquired by Engine Group in 2010, and serves numerous progressive brands as digital, social, and/or lead creative agency-of-record.

Noise was founded by Noah Kerner in 2005 as an agency with deep expertise in engaging millennial consumers and has grown to become a true leader in this space. Noise was acquired by Engine in 2010.

"The addition of Noise's deep talent and distinctive resources strengthens Deep Focus by making the agency even more reflective of the consumers with whom it helps brands resonate every day," said Ian Schafer, Founder and CEO of Deep Focus. "Noise's youth marketing expertise and the Intelligence Group's keen insights make us an even more ideal partner for clients looking to get smarter about, and better at, resonating with increasingly elusive young audiences."

Schafer will remain CEO of the newly expanded Deep Focus, while Joe Kessler, currently CEO and President of Noise and the Intelligence Group, will become President of Deep Focus. The combined company will have a staff of more than 300, with offices in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, St. Louis, and Shanghai.

"As Noise and Deep Focus have been collaborating on research, client work and business development, we came to realize that we share a common vision, yet have discrete complementary skills and capabilities that could be brought together for the ultimate benefit of our people and clients," Kessler said. "The idea of joining forces seems natural and timely."

Deep Focus Chief Creative Officer Ken Kraemer and Noise Chief Marketing Officer Jamie Gutfreund will continue in their current roles at Deep Focus.

Founded in 2002, Deep Focus, a subsidiary of Engine USA, is a full-service digital marketing agency with offices in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Shanghai. The agency is comprised of more than 200 cultural explorers, creative thinkers, analysts, data scientists, strategists, makers, technology experts, content producers, product developers, and researchers.

In 2012, Deep Focus built a division called the Moment Studio; the first creative newsroom dedicated to creating a high volume of share-worthy branded content, and is still a leader in the branded content space.

The Intelligence Group (IG), also joining Deep Focus as a part of Noise, is a consumer insights and market research company focused mainly on young consumers. IG publishes the Cassandra Report, the leading ongoing syndicated study of youth culture for marketers, and provides Deep Focus with the ability to use quantitative and qualitative research and insights to help shape effective campaign strategies and prove that they work.

Combined clients include such progressive companies as Nestlé, Intel, Purina, Pernod-Ricard, Samsung, E.&J. Gallo Winery, Yahoo!, Cole Haan, YouTube, Victoria's Secret, Chase, and Nordstrom, among others.
