The James Dyson Foundation has teamed up with Science World to create an Engineering Lab for young people, inspiring them to become inventors. It will unleash their interest in design engineering by encouraging them to think creatively. The exhibition opens free to the public on Saturday, December 17, 2011.
"Canada has a strong legacy of engineering, research and development - from the creation of the Trans-Canada railway to the invention of insulin," explains James Dyson. "Investing in young people will allow the success to continue - and grow. Science World is the right platform to do this."
Engineering challenges
The James Dyson Foundation Engineering Lab at Science World introduces the concept of air flow through a tangled web of plastic tubes and valves. Young people can experiment with coloured scarves, sending them through the tubular maze and watching them fly out from the top.
The Engineering Lab classroom is where children will learn about velocity, gravity and other engineering principles. They will build spaghetti bridges, marble runs and even construct their own Science World geodesic dome.

The James Dyson Foundation is committed to encouraging young people into careers in design engineering. The registered charity provides free resources for design and technology teachers, as well as working in universities and schools throughout the UK and internationally. It's also behind the James Dyson Award, a competition challenging young engineers and designers to develop problem solving inventions.
