English language course providers Kaplan International Colleges and Pro Linguis are supporting Carlo Schmid's attempt to break a world aviation record.

Carlo, a 22-year-old from Switzerland, is aiming to follow in the footsteps of Phileas Fogg and become the youngest person to fly solo around the world in 80 days in order to inspire others and raise money for charity.

The death of Carlo's mother from cancer in August 2010 has motivated the former bank worker to quit his job and attempt to surpass the achievements of current world-record holder Irving Barrington, who managed to fly around the world at the age of 23 in 2007.

This world record attempt is a current feature of the Pro Linguis project 'IWWIHW' which supports young and ambitious people in reaching their aims. IWWIHW stands for 'Ich weiss wo ich hin will', which translates into 'I know where I want to go'.

Carlo Schmid takes off on the 11th of July from Dübendorf airport in Zürich and the proceeds of the entire project will be donated to the UN Children's Fund UNICEF Switzerland in favour of an educational scheme in India.

Corinne Schmid, Pro Linguis online marketing executive, said: "We are so happy to support Carlo who is such an ambitious and generous person. The IWWIHW campaign is delighted to feature Carlo and we wish him well in his attempt to become the youngest person to fly solo around the world."

A team of young and committed people have been behind Carlo from the start of this campaign, including one of his best friends Fraui who recorded the song "Zäme um d'Wält" which reached number eight in the Swiss popular music chart.

Kaplan, which has over 40 English language schools across the world, will be launching a Facebook competition to encourage its students to inspire Carlo to achieve his record breaking goal.
