Entering the 2016 MLB Season, Chicago Cubs Tickets up Almost 30% on Secondary Market

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT--(Marketwired - Mar 31, 2016) - With expectations sky-high, tickets to see the Chicago Cubs play at Wrigley Field in 2016 are averaging $124 each on the secondary market, which equates to a 29% increase in ticket prices over last season, according to* Although they had a strong finish in 2015, the Chicago Cubs' offseason roster moves put them in an even better position to win the World Series in 2016.

The increase in ticket prices can be attributed to ticket demand, which has increased in recent years thanks to the Cubs' heightened level of performance. In 2013, the Cubs finished with a record of 66-96, and, according to ESPN, had a season attendance of 2,642,682. The following year, the team finished the season with a slightly better record of 73-89 and a slightly higher total attendance of 2,652,113. After a 97-65 finish in 2015, which earned the Cubs a playoff berth, the overall attendance for games at Wrigley Field increased by 11% (300,000 additional patrons) from 2014, which amounted to a total season attendance of 2,959,812.

This winter, the organization added outfielder Jason Heyward, utility player Ben Zobrist, and starter John Lackey, who join an already strong roster that features third baseman Kris Bryant, first baseman Anthony Rizzo, and starter Jake Arrieta. With the increase in average ticket price and the team's offseason roster improvements, it is speculated that the team's total attendance will be even higher in 2016.
