'Entrepreneurial Idol' Competition Organized by TiE Dallas

DALLAS, TX--(Marketwired - October 23, 2014) - On October 11, 2014, TiE Dallas held its Annual Conference, the annual premier event that brought together business leaders, entrepreneurs, investors, and professionals from a wide spectrum of industries to discuss real-world success stories on transformative changes that result in successful organizations. "TiECon South 2014, was a huge success -- we had over 200 business professionals attend the event," said Adil Adi, Governing Board member of TiE Dallas.

One of the highlights of the conference was the 'Entrepreneurial Idol' pitch competition, which left a lasting impression on the audiences as out of 50 companies that applied, 16 were selected to give a 2 minute pitch on their business idea, and were judged on their creativity, social focus/addressing a consumer need, and ability to generate revenue profitably.

"The excitement, focus and commitment by the participants in Entrepreneurial Idol was clearly demonstrated in the way they embraced the pace, engagement, and interactive participation that it made for a memorable event," said Nick Mysore, Board Member, and Chair of the TiE Mentoring Program.

The Entrepreneurial Idol Competition brought a diverse group of entrepreneurs from the Dallas entrepreneurial community who were engaged in social media, big data, fund raising, and technology and left everyone who attended in awe, as a great example of how one can make a pitch competition fun, exciting and creative if one uses their imagination!

Celebrity judges like Emmitt Smith, NFL Hall of Famer and former Dallas Cowboys running back, Mahesh Shetty, CFO of Encore Enterprises, and Fred Chanslor, of the Stonehaven Group took the event to a whole new level with their interactivity and engagement in the competition.

As the conference keynote speaker Sarvajna Dwivedi, Co-Founder & Chief Scientific Officer of Pearl Therapeutics, said, "For an entrepreneur to succeed he or she needs to be bold, take the risk and find a good mentor to help him or her. These young men and women were very courageous to pitch their business ideas to the room full of entrepreneurs and celebrity judges."

In the spirit of 'American Idol,' the conference attendees participated in voting and judging the top three prize winners, using the iClicker technology.

Winners were awarded cash prizes, a signed football from Emmitt Smith, and one-on-one time with a venture capitalist. The top three winners are:

First Place: MyCredex -- Andrew Cox
Second Place: The Giving Blueprint -- Kimberly O'Neal
Third Place: LRNGO -- David Brake

TiE Dallas interim President Nilesh Naik noted that, "For the first time we had such a diverse range of companies participate that spanned technology, credit monitoring, non profit, medical and real estate sectors that made it a very lively competition."

One in the audience summarized the event best -- "'Entrepreneurial Idol' attracted the best of breed among the Dallas start up community." In fact, everyone on stage was a winner! None left without a new contact or interest to help pursue their dreams -- to turn their VISION to REALITY!
