Entropex a Finalist in 2013 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - July 9, 2013) - Entropex, an industry leading processor of post-consumer and post-industrial plastics, is a finalist in the Ontario region for the Cleantech and Manufacturing category for the upcoming Ernst & Young ("EY") Entrepreneur of the Year Award.

EY Entrepreneur of the Year recognizes the spirit and contribution of the country's most impressive entrepreneurs around the world from all areas of business. Finalists are selected based on financial success, vision, leadership, innovation and community engagement.

"Being selected as a finalist in the clean tech and manufacturing category recognizes that Entropex is making a tangible difference in the daily lives of Ontarians. These kinds of innovative solutions require strong leadership and a strong team" said Keith Bechard, President of Entropex.

Through RigidReclaim™ ("RRT") technology, Entropex is furthering its capability as a recycling solution for virtually all types of rigid plastic consumer packaging. The RRT technology is an integrated process which converts Mixed Rigid plastic into highly pure, commercially-valuable resin streams. For example, previously landfilled bakery trays, yogurt cups and other types of non-bottle plastic containers are now recovered for use in consumer product packaging, consumer household or durable goods. More than 70% of the plastics recovered by RRT are plastics that are not recycled by conventional recycling methods and would end up in landfill or incinerator. At Entropex, we make sustainable packaging possible.

The result is an expanded scope of consumer packaged goods that increases recovery rates, reduces harmful emissions and has a direct environmental benefit to Ontarians.

"We recovered 130 MM pounds of recycled post-consumer plastics last year. We are proud to have commercialized a new technology that has provided environmental benefits by reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 81% when compared against the production of virgin resins (The Bloom Centre of Recovery)." stated Bechard.

In Ontario, the proof statement is that Entropex has vastly expanded the types of packaging that can be recovered. The Province of Ontario has measured a 30% increase in the volume of Rigid plastic recovery in 2011, mainly as a result of this technology.

"The success and contribution of RRT is due to the collective efforts of Entropex, stewards, industry and government including stakeholders at every level. The infrastructure built in Ontario has allowed the increase in plastics collection to grow and that is something we can all be proud of," stated Bechard.

The winners will be announced at a gala on October 24, 2013. The overall winner will represent the region at a national gala held in Toronto on November 27, 2013.
