ENVIRON(R) Announces Recent Senior Hires


ARLINGTON, VA--(Marketwire - September 6, 2007) - Ewire -- Ronald E. Hutchens, President of the North American consulting division of ENVIRON Holdings, Inc., is pleased to announce the recent addition of several key senior hires. Principals Joe Nation and Norman Ozaki, and Senior Manager Estelle Shiroma have joined the Emeryville, California, office. James Solyst joins the Arlington, Virginia, office as a Principal Consultant.

A former California Assemblyman and principal co-author of California's AB-32, Nation is a pivotal addition to the firm's premier air quality practice and will advise clients on how to reduce carbon emissions and comply with this landmark climate-change bill. Bringing a combined 45 years of experience to the growing Pacific Northwest operations, Ozaki and Shiroma will make significant contributions to the provision of human health and ecological risk assessment and risk management services to clients in the region. Solyst brings to ENVIRON 25 years of experience advising businesses and policy leaders on the application of science to decision making and communicating science to key lay audiences, including regulatory and legislative bodies.

Joe Nation, Ph.D., a leading international expert on the emerging U.S. carbon market, carbon market policies, and carbon finance, recently completed his third term in the California State Assembly. A frequent invited speaker at conferences on climate change and carbon management, Dr. Nation has briefed members of the British Parliament and European Union. He represented California at the 2006 United Nations summit on climate change in Nairobi. As a California Assemblyman, he authored nearly 50 successful bills, including greenhouse gas labeling for autos, fuel efficiency standards for tires, and tax incentives for alternative energy. Dr. Nation holds a Ph.D. in Public Policy Analysis from The RAND Graduate School and completed post-doctoral work at Stanford University.

Norman T. Ozaki, Ph.D., has more than 25 years of environmental consulting experience in human health and ecological risk assessment and toxicology. His breadth of expertise includes site investigations; development and negotiation of risk-based remedial goals; hazardous waste site closures, and baseline risk assessments for federal and state Superfund sites; compliance evaluations; and Proposition 65 evaluations in California. Dr. Ozaki has also served as a toxicology and risk assessment expert witness for numerous litigation cases in the U.S. and abroad. He holds a Ph.D. in Health Policy Modeling and Analysis from the University of California, San Francisco, and has completed National Institute of Health post-doctoral research at the University of California, Berkeley.

Estelle Shiroma, D.Env., brings to ENVIRON more than 20 years of diverse experience in environmental site investigation and remediation, human health and ecological risk assessment, and regulatory compliance. Her varied background includes extensive experience in property due diligence, environmental compliance audits, and Proposition 65 evaluations, in addition to risk assessments at residential, agricultural, commercial, and industrial sites, and military bases. She is well-versed in federal, state, and local environmental programs. Estelle holds a Doctorate of Environmental Science and Engineering from UCLA and an M.S. in Public Health with a concentration in Environmental Health Sciences from the University of Hawaii.

James M. Solyst has provided strategic consulting to industry and government leaders on a range of issues, including product stewardship, global chemical management, emergency response, and corporate responsibility. His experience encompasses national, state, and international regulatory processes. He has assisted U.S. State Governors with initiatives and incidents through the National Governors' Association and chemical companies responding to emerging science through the American Chemistry Council. His international experience includes initiatives related to REACH and the UNEP's Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) and harmonization of global product stewardship programs. He is a member of the American Chemical Society Committee on Environmental Improvement and an External Affiliate of the Risk Sciences and Public Policy Institute of the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health.
