Dominion East Ohio's Home Performance With ENERGY STAR Program Administered by GoodCents® Earns Award for the Second Year for Protecting the Environment Through Superior Energy Efficiency

ATLANTA, GA--(Marketwired - April 15, 2014) - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the second year in a row, has named Dominion East Ohio an ENERGY STAR Award winner for Excellence in Energy Efficiency Program Delivery for its outstanding contributions to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by delivering energy efficiency information and services to its customers. The program, administered by GoodCents will receive this outstanding recognition in Washington, D.C. on April 29, 2014.

Dominion East Ohio, an ENERGY STAR partner since 2010 is being honored for their work to increase market share of energy-efficient ENERGY STAR qualified programs through comprehensive outreach, education, and marketing programs such as Home Performance with ENERGY STAR (HPwES.) Administered by GoodCents, this program improves the energy performance, durability, and healthiness of existing residential homes in the Dominion East Ohio service territory through home energy assessments.

For a small fee of $50.00, a GoodCents Building Performance Institute (BPI) certified auditor works with a Dominion East Ohio residential customer and performs a three- to four-hour comprehensive home performance energy assessment. At the end of the assessment, a detailed report which includes a list of recommendations and the projected energy savings for making the recommended improvements is presented to the homeowner. The homeowner can contact a participating contractor to complete the desired work and can earn up to $1,250 in rebates for making their home more energy efficient.

Since its launch mid-October 2010, Dominion East Ohio's HPwES program has completed over 12,000 assessments and paid out over $3.4 million in rebates to over 6,000 people who have made energy efficiency upgrades to their home. The program has built a large network of active contractors that have supported the program resulting in more than $30 million being invested back into the local economy.

"GoodCents is committed to our partnership with Dominion East Ohio and ENERGY STAR -- it is a very important component of our business," said Bob Mason, Vice President of Energy Efficiency at GoodCents. "Our customers benefit greatly from using ENERGY STAR products and programs, which save them energy and money, while helping to protect the environment."

Through 2013, with help from ENERGY STAR, American families and businesses have saved $297 billion on utility bills and prevented more than 2.1 billion metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions.

"Dominion East Ohio sets a high standard for organizations across the country for delivering energy efficiency and environmental programs," said EPA Deputy Administrator Bob Perciasepe. "Through their HPwES Progam, they are demonstrating how Americans can save money and energy, while protecting the environment and fighting climate change."

The 2014 Awards for Excellence in ENERGY STAR Promotion are given to a variety of organizations in recognition of their contributions to reducing greenhouse gas emissions through superior energy efficiency.
