ePals® Children's Publishing Division Wins 13 Parents' Choice Awards

Leads All Other Publishers, Dominating the Children's Magazine Category

WASHINGTON, DC and CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwire - Mar 5, 2012) - ePals Corporation (TSX VENTURE: SLN), an education media company and leading safe social learning network, today announced that its Children's Publishing Division, formerly Carus Publishing, captured 13 awards of excellence at the 2012 Parents' Choice Awards. The awards recognize the top children's magazines as voted upon by the Parents' Choice Foundation's panel of educators, scientists, performing artists, librarians, parents and even kids themselves.

"We're delighted to once again be honored by Parents' Choice," said Jason Patenaude, president of ePals' Children's Publishing Division. "We strive to produce the finest children's content possible, and it's gratifying when that work is recognized by an independent organization that is so well respected for its quality and rigorous evaluation process."

The company dominated the gold medal category, receiving seven of the eleven gold medals awarded by Parents' Choice, and also four silver medals and two medals of recognition. The 13 total awards far exceeded those awarded to any other single publisher. Carus Publishing has received nearly 80 Parents' Choice awards throughout its history.

The magazines recognized included:

  • Ask®
  • Cicada®
  • Cobblestone®
  • Cricket®
  • Dig®
  • Muse®
  • Odyssey®

  • Babybug®
  • Calliope®
  • Click®
  • Spider®

  • Faces®
  • Ladybug®

ePals acquired Carus Publishing in November of 2011, and since then, has begun integrating the content into the ePals Global Community that reaches more than 25 million people around the world. The upcoming launch of an expanded and upgraded Global Community service will prominently feature new "learning centers" that incorporate authentic, project-based learning activities for children based in part on the content across these beloved, time-tested, award-winning titles.

Says Patenaude, "Becoming part of the ePals family is exciting, as it opens up new opportunities to extend our content into online learning communities, ebooks, digital editions, and mobile apps. We're looking forward to competing in the digital categories of future Parents' Choice Awards."
