Epic Data Achieves SymbolPLUS Validation for its Lean Material Management System

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 25, 2006) - Epic Data International Inc. (TSX:EKD), a leading provider of automated data capture and collaborative manufacturing execution solutions for discrete manufacturers, announced today that Epic Data's Material Management System (MMS) has been granted SymbolPLUS™ Validated Software status through the Symbol Technologies' Solutions Validation Program. A series of testing objectives and customer usage scenarios confirmed operation of Epic Data's MMS on Symbol's MC9060 rugged mobile computer and interoperability with Symbols wireless LAN -- including the WS5100 wireless switch, ES3000 24-port Power Over Ethernet switch and AP300 802.11a/b/g access port.

"We are excited about the SymbolPLUS validation of MMS as it strengthens our relationship to jointly address the discrete manufacturing market with lean manufacturing solutions that improve the operating efficiencies of our customers through visibility of material flow and synchronization to production takt to increase the velocity of the production line," said Graeme Harfman, VP Marketing of Epic Data. "The benefits of the solution to organizations include the ability to communicate real-time material movement information to the MMS database and back to other MMS users providing the visibility required to achieve world-class lean manufacturing."

Epic Data's MMS is a lean manufacturing warehouse and production material management solution specifically designed to support the convergence of materials from the supply chain to the production floor of large discrete manufacturers. MMS extends the material movement capabilities of traditional ERP systems to the shop floor mobile workforce giving them the flexibility they need to react to the constantly changing needs of their customers. MMS manages, tracks and expedites materials through the production cycle in real-time. It's like a "parcel express" system for the factory. MMS helps manufacturers plan, locate and expedite parts to build customer orders faster.

MMS provides visibility into the supply chain, to material availability and location within the enterprise, and facilitates material tracing to meet quality and regulatory mandates. Designed for today's mixed mode manufacturing environments, MMS integrates demand-pull and push replenishment. MMS functional groups and transactions cover inbound logistics, inventory management, location management, demand fulfillment, outbound logistics and shipping.

"Epic has long lasting relationships with leading manufacturing organizations from the aerospace and defense, as well as heavy equipment industries, which represent an ideal market for Symbol's products," said Patrick McCullough, Vice President and general manager of Symbol's Solutions Division. "By testing its Material Management System for compatibility with Symbol products, Epic Data will strengthen its presence in delivering enterprise mobility solutions in the manufacturing market."
