Epicor® Customer Symetrics Industries Recognized by Computerworld as a 2011 Honors Laureate

Global Information Technology Awards Foundation Pays Tribute to Individuals and Organizations That Use Information Technology to Benefit Society

IRVINE, CA--(Marketwire - May 20, 2011) - Epicor Software Corporation, a global leader in business software solutions for manufacturing, distribution, retail and services organizations, today announced that its customer, Symetrics Industries based in Melbourne, Florida, has been recognized as a 2011 Laureate by the Computerworld Honors Program. The annual award program honors visionary applications of information technology promoting positive social, economic and educational change.

Symetrics uses Epicor's next-generation enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution to apply "lean" and "green" manufacturing initiatives -- utilizing innovative technologies to take the enterprise paperless. The company's "A Truly Paperless Manufacturing Floor" project has transformed its manufacturing operations with quality improvements, cost reductions, less scrap and rework, and on-time delivery, while also addressing sustainability initiatives and diminishing its environmental footprint.

"Epicor is honored to have our customer receive such distinct recognition for their achievements," said John Hiraoka, executive vice president and chief marketing officer for Epicor. "The outcome of Symetrics' paperless shop floor initiative is significant, and we congratulate them on this well-deserved award. Epicor is proud to collaborate with companies like Symetrics which share our passion and vision for innovation."

Symetrics is an ISO 9001:2000 and AS9100B registered company that specializes in the design, manufacture, and testing of electronic systems for military applications that integrate into airborne or ground platforms. Symetrics' customers include the Department of Defense, as well as prime contractors in the military and aerospace and defense (A&D) industries throughout the world. Taking the company paperless has positively affected many aspects of the manufacturing process, and has led to improvements that make Symetrics much more competitive in the marketplace.

Adopting an integrated approach with Epicor ERP has allowed Symetrics to automate and streamline operations, implement real-time traceability, and improve data flow throughout the organization via a paperless system. By taking steps to remove hardcopy documentation, Symetrics has better control over its manufacturing operations, and paper usage has been reduced by 25% company-wide, and close to 100% on the shop floor.

"The number and quality of nominations this year were very inspiring and demonstrate how valuable IT is to community change," said John Amato, publisher, Computerworld. "Computerworld is very proud to name the 2011 class of Laureates and showcase their initiatives benefiting society through innovative uses of IT."

The Computerworld Honors awards will be presented at the Annual Laureates Medal Ceremony & Gala Awards on June 20, 2011 at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, D.C.
