Kanga Drilling Results Deliver Positive Copper and Uranium Intercepts New Discovery at Kababisa

Equinox Minerals Limited (TSX:EQN)(ASX:EQN) ("Equinox" or the "Corporation") is pleased to report that exploration and drilling progress continues to identify new sulphide mineralization discoveries near its Lumwana Copper Project which is presently under construction in the North Western province of Zambia. Exploration activities on the 1,355 km2 Large Scale Mining License have focussed on the Kanga and Kababisa Prospects.

Kanga Prospect

The Kanga Prospect extends south from the Malundwe Pit where mining has commenced. Subsequent to the Corporation's previous Kanga announcement (see press release November 8, 2006) in which assay results from the initial 10 reverse circulation percussion ("RCP") exploration drill holes (LUM367 - 376) were released, Equinox advises that an additional 28 RCP holes totalling 4916m (LUM377- 415) have been drilled along 2km of strike. (Note: holes LUM386, 387, 390, 398 - 400, 403 - 406 and 413 have yet to be drilled.) All RCP holes intersected the ore schist horizon with intercepts ranging between 5 - 20 metres in width encountered at the predicted down-hole position. All RCP holes that contained copper intercepts greater than 0.2%Cu are presented in Table 1 below, and all holes drilled are indicated in the accompanying map (Figure 1). The 8645680N drill traverse is south of the previously defined Malundwe resource, on the southern edge of the Malundwe pit design. Wide zones of copper mineralization intersected on this traverse included holes LUM396: 16m (168-184m) of 2.00% Cu, LUM397: 24m (168-192m) of 1.82% Cu and LUM402: 25m (196-221m) of 1.34% Cu. The 8645440N traverse, 240m further to the south, also returned significant intercepts including LUM412: 8m (214-222m) of 1.25% Cu and 6m (252-258m) of 1.43% Cu, and LUM415: 28m (266-294m) of 0.92% Cu, confirming the continued southward plunge of the mineralized shoots from Malundwe into the Kanga area. In addition, several horizons returned elevated uranium values, most notably LUM388 which included an intercept of 8m (18-26m) of 410ppm U (0.04% U308) and 2.0m (86-88m) of 480ppm U (0.06% U308).

Kababisa Prospect

The Kababisa Prospect lies approximately 5km north of the current Lumwana process plant currently under construction. Equinox undertook a time-domain IP program that identified significant, coherent, strike parallel IP anomalies extending for over 3km. A recently completed scout RC drill program (LUM500 - 505) designed to establish the dip of the sequence and the tenor of the mineralization in the sulphide zone has been completed. The assays from the RC holes are presented in Table 2 and indicate a shallow westerly dip to the ore schist horizon suggesting that sulphide mineralization is near the surface. Intercepts include LUM500: 4m (36-40m) of 1.41% Cu, LUM501: 6m (18-24m) of 1.15%Cu and LUM504: 6m (62-68m) of 0.89%Cu. This zone of mineralization has strong similarities to the nearby Malundwe orebody and consequently, a combined RC and diamond drilling program has commenced to evaluate the importance of Kababisa on a priority basis. Competent Person and Sampling Protocols

As required by the National Instrument 43-101, Equinox's designated qualified personnel required for the supervision of exploration of the projects are John Cooke and Mike Richards, employees of the Corporation. Drill method utilised to generate the samples was 4.5" diameter reverse circulation, using a face sampling hammer bit. Collar positions were located using a differential GPS and the holes were surveyed every 50m downhole. Samples were collected into plastic bags via a cyclone on 1m intervals and split through a 75:25 Jones riffle splitter. 1m samples were composited to cover a 2m interval at all projects except the uranium program, where 1m samples were submitted for assay. The resultant sample of 2kg was placed in a calico bag. Duplicates, standard reference samples and blanks were inserted in the sample sequence at a rate of 1 in 20. Samples were despatched directly to ALS Chemex at Malaga, Perth Western Australia by air freight. All samples were dried, crushed and pulverised to achieve 90% passing -75microns. The pulp was collected from the pulveriser bowl by a ceramic sample scoop, and the balance of the pulp stored for re-assay, if required. Samples were assayed by four acid digest and method ME-ICP61 up to 10000ppmCu; above this level samples were re-assayed by Cu-OG62, a more accurate ore grade determination. Intercepts were calculated as an arithmetic average. Uranium was assayed by ME-ICP61 up to a value of 25,000ppm whereupon they were re-assayed by pressed powder XRF. Intervals represent down hole intercepts, although tables present the true thickness of the intercept. Lower cut off grades accepted for the intercepts were 0.2%Cu and 100ppmU, with up to 4m permissible as internal waste.
