Eric Lefkofsky -- and Wife Liz Support Damon Runyon Fellowship Award

CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwired - November 25, 2015) - Eric Lefkofsky, Groupon Co-founder and Chairman, and his wife Liz are proud to support the Damon Runyon Fellowship Award with a gift of more than $150,000. As part of the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation, the award encourages new and experimental research toward the therapies and preventions of various types of cancer.

The Damon Runyon Fellowship Award is a program that offers researchers an opportunity to expand studies in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. The Fellow, Dr. Beverly Piggott, PhD, at the University of California, San Francisco, has explored how brain tumors develop and grow -- with a focus on the role of a specific protein. With funding from the Lefkofsky Family Foundation, her continuing research has demonstrated that tumor growth can be disrupted by the intake of this protein.

The Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation has invested over $287 million in students and professors through fellowships since 1946. It is proud to offer individuals the unique freedom to challenge conventional concepts and ideas within the scientific community. "The organization focuses on scientists early in their careers," Eric Lefkofsky explains. "It is an honor to support great, young minds who are willing to take risks and explore new paths."
