Eric Stonestreet Talks Fame, Modern Family and Gay Rights in Interview With Kjersti Flaa for Secret Life of Pets

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - July 05, 2016) - Eric Stonestreet, most known from the TV-show Modern Family, is soon to hit theaters as the voice of "Duke" in Secret Life of Pets. The animated movie premieres July 8th.

Secret Life of Pets also stars Louis C.K., Kevin Hart, Steve Coogan, Ellie Kemper, Bobby Moynihan, Lake Bell, Hannibal Buress and Albert Brooks. Stonestreet´s character Duke, is a Newfoundland, and pretty far from what the Modern Family actor has done before. Even though he was just the voice of the dog, Stonestreet explains that it still takes a lot of effort. That doing voice over demands a lot of physical movements from him. He would be acting with his whole body inside the little booth.

When asked about the fame aspect of being on a popular TV-show, the actor says: "People definitely feel that they know me and have a little bit of ownership of me. You would be surprised with how little issue they have with pulling me and grabbing me."

The actor says although most of his interactions are positive and people tell him that they love the show, or find him funny. But he has some bad experiences when alcohol is involved. "It makes people a little rude," he admits.

The actor hopes that Modern Family can help people get more open minded in terms of two people of the same sex raising a baby together.

"From the beginning we knew that we would have a part in opening up peoples minds to new thoughts and ideas. We take it very seriously that we get the opportunity to give people a different perspective on what it means to be two men raising a baby and show that it doesn't really matter what the persons sexual orientation is as far as their ability to love a child and give them a safe home."

He adds: "But our objective has always been to make people laugh and make them forget about real world problems for 22 minutes."
