Erin Ganju is co-founder and CEO of Room to Read, a global organization seeking to transform the lives of millions of children in Asia and Africa by focusing on literacy and gender equality in education. Founded in 2000 on the belief that World Change Starts with Educated Children, Room to Read has impacted the lives of nearly nine million children. Ganju manages worldwide operations across ten program countries and oversees a global employee base of over 600 people. She is an experienced international business development professional, having worked as vice president of business development for Dejima, Inc. and at Unilever N.V. and Goldman Sachs. She holds combined bachelor's and master's degrees in international relations and economics from Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University.
Ganju will speak to Bowman International School students at the launch for a Global Citizen Project that was jointly developed by Room to Read and Bowman. She will discuss how the students can take Bowman's mission statement -- which includes being an "internationally aware program that promotes respect, responsibility, and independence" -- and make it a reality in their lives. Ganju will also provide details on Room to Read's efforts in Asia, the continent of study for Bowman this semester, and the role that cultural traditions, economics and demographics have played in that region.
