eRPortal Software Helps the University of Windsor Automate its Chemical Control Centre

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--(CCNMatthews - Mar 29, 2006) -

The eRPortal Software Group, a leading developer of materials management and environmental safety tracking software, today announced that the University of Windsor, located in Ontario, Canada, has implemented the eRPortal Scientific Materials Stockroom Manager with Hazardous Materials Tracking in its Chemical Control Centre.

The University's Chemical Control Centre provides lab, chemical and hazardous materials procurement and inventory services to the academic, research, and administrative departments at the University. The new solution vastly improves the Control Centre's ability to track chemicals and hazardous substances from cradle-to-grave, as well as streamline the delivery of essential client services.

"Safety is a critical component of chemical inventory control in Canada, and consequently, it is thoroughly integrated into the management process," said Ed Garibian, eRPortal Software president. "What eRPortal brought to the Chemical Control Centre was a fully automated approach to meeting compliance requirements and streamlining internal processes. The University will also take advantage of some advanced eRPortal technology, like remote order entry from any PC browser on campus and inventory cycle counting via wireless/hand held PDA/Scanners."

"Using serialized bar-coding for full cradle-to-grave chemical tracking, the new system will enable the University of Windsor to exceed legal requirements pertaining to Fire Response, Occupational Health and Safety, WHMIS, and other relevant legislation," said Chris Busch, Director of the University of Windsor's Chemical Control Center. "At the same time, the eRPortal has been flexible enough to meet our unique operational needs, enabling us to automate and improve the services we provide to our clients."

eRPortal Software is a robust and flexible solution, built on the Microsoft .Net platform that runs on MS 2003 Server and MS SQL Server. The comprehensive eRPortal solution will permit real-time access to inventory information on all satellite labs from any PC browser, on-line ordering, and on-line access to MSDS information. Inventory updating of satellite locations will be effected via hand-held bar-code scanners. Account holders will receive electronic updates of their acquisitions on a monthly basis to help aid in the management of their funds, while researchers will be able to acquire materials that will be directly charged back to their active grants. All of this accounting information will also feed directly to the University's PeopleSoft financial system.
