Escape Lawful Custody Stan Daniels Healing Centre: Offender Wesley Clinton KOOTENAY

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - March 13, 2008) - At approximately 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday March 11, 2008, Offender Wesley Kootenay escaped from the Stan Daniels Healing Centre in Edmonton, AB. Edmonton Police Services were notified.

Offender Wesley Kootenay is a 30-year old federal offender serving a 3-year, 3-day sentence for trafficking and trespassing. Kootenay commenced his sentence on March 31, 2006. He was eligible for Full Parole on April 1, 2007. He is Aboriginal, has a medium complexion, shaved black hair, and brown eyes.

Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of Offender Kootenay is asked to contact police.

The Stan Daniels Healing Center is operated and staffed by Native Counselling Services of Alberta (NCSA) and is located at 9516 101 Avenue in downtown Edmonton. NCSA provides a range of spiritual and correctional programs to both offenders on conditional release and minimum security inmates through agreement with the federal Minister of Public Safety. At the time of the incident, there were 24 inmates and 27 conditionally released offenders residing at the Stan Daniels Healing Center.

The Correctional Service of Canada and Native Counselling Services of Alberta will be conducting a joint review into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
