WILLISTON, VT--(Marketwired - Feb 27, 2014) - Just as winter starts to feel endless, the Vermont Community Gardening Network (VCGN) invites gardeners and gastronomes to an evening escape at Gardener's Supply in Williston, to benefit VCGN's work with community and school gardeners statewide.
"Artful Eating and Gardening: A Benefit for the Vermont Community Garden Network" will feature stunning tablescapes and local refreshments, remarks by American food writer Ed Behr, and the company of gardening and fresh food enthusiasts eager for the first signs of spring.
From 4:30 to 7 p.m., guests may tour the lush, fragrant Gardener's Supply greenhouse and discuss tablescaping and other topics with Gardener's experts. At 6 p.m., Ed Behr, author of 50 Foods: The Essentials of Good Taste and The Art of Eating Cookbook, will speak about the joy and beauty of fresh food. Behr and VCGN board member Ellen Ecker Ogden, garden designer and author of The Complete Kitchen Garden, will be available during the evening to sign books and answer questions about growing and eating good food.
Sugarsnap will serve creative, 50 Foods-inspired refreshments made from scratch using delicious local cheeses, meats, vegetables and more. A cash bar will also be available.
"We like to think of this event as a 'meet and eat,'" said Jess Hyman, VCGN's Executive Director. "It's a great opportunity to escape the cold for a while and focus on springtime, with expert gardeners and authors, while supporting VCGN's many efforts in our communities."
In addition to great gardening and cooking inspiration, guests will take home free seeds from High Mowing Organic Seed Company.
Tickets to "Artful Eating and Gardening" cost $15, with proceeds benefiting VCGN's work with Vermont's community and school gardens. A full 10 percent of the evening's garden center sales will also benefit VCGN. To purchase tickets, visit the Eventbrite online invitation at http://tinyurl.com/March13VCGN or call (802) 861-4769.
This event is generously hosted and sponsored by Sugarsnap and Gardener's Supply and will be held at Gardener's Supply Williston store, 472 Marshall Ave., and Sugarsnap, with support from Phoenix Books of Essex and Burlington.
