Espey's Aircraft and Avionics Maintenance Power Supply (AAMPS) system has been fully tested and is field operational. This approach offers significant advantages over the traditional options based on outdated military specifications. Espey believes this is a prime example of our commitment to meet active fleet "Green Ship" directives by benefitting from the investment in new and future Power Technologies for the US Navy.
The AAMPS is a modern design that offers the benefits of providing both Aircraft 400 Hz AC and 28 VDC, meeting anticipated demands of a wide variety of fixed and rotary aircraft and UAVs. The design incorporates the latest safety and operational features, remote user interface and control intended for flight deck operation, and night vision compatibility.
The AAMPS was developed to interface with a 440VAC or a 650VDC power systems. Adapted for use on platforms with MIL-STD-1399, 440VAC requires use of a simple, reliable 440VAC to 650VDC, Unregulated Transformer/Rectifier Unit (TRU). The TRU can also be coupled with other newly developed Power equipment utilizing a 650VDC Input for use on other ships equipped with 440V AC main power.
The TRU and AAMPS solution provides significant size and weight advantages over having both the existing 28VDC MIL-P-15736/1 plus a 400 Hz Aircraft Power Supply/Frequency Converter and provides more capability and features to support the current and future aircraft needs.
