Esso Minor Hockey Festival Comes to Scotiabank Place

30 T.E.A.M. Hockey Country Teams Set for Event March 9 to 10

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - March 8, 2007) - On Friday, March 9, and Saturday, March 10, the Ottawa Senators will host the 3rd annual Esso Minor Hockey Festival, to be held at Scotiabank Place.

Thirty teams and more than 500 participants selected from the club's T.E.A.M. Hockey Country program will take part in the event, which will run from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday. The participating teams, who represent all parts of the region - from Arnprior to Gatineau, Pembroke to South Grenville and points in between - will take part in the full experience of playing at Scotiabank Place and participating in off-ice activities.

On the ice, teams will play two 20-minute periods, featuring full NHL-style in-game production, including national anthem, player introductions, music between stoppages in play, the VIA rail horn for goals and videoboard usage.

Off the ice, players can join in the fun of the GM Sens Street Tour, testing the speed of their shot in the Direct Energy Hardest Shot Cage, their accuracy on the Top Shot Goalie or taking on their teammates in a game of joust.

"Through the support of programs such as the Ottawa Senators T.E.A.M. Hockey Country program and the Esso Minor Hockey Festival, youngsters are able to experience the fun and the passion that is Canada's game in an environment that encourages sportsmanship, effort and dedication - qualities that are important for youth development both on and off the ice," said Karen Fraser, marketing sponsorship manager for Esso.

Esso has been a proud sponsor of hockey since 1936 and has been actively involved in supporting numerous minor hockey programs across the country.

"The Esso Minor Hockey Festival is great event to wrap up our third season of the T.E.A.M. Hockey Country program," said Jeff Kyle, vice-president of marketing for the Senators. "More than 700 teams committed themselves to the principles of T.E.A.M. Hockey Country. Now they get to cap off their hockey season with two fun days of activities for the players."

Participating teams were selected from across the Ottawa and Outaouais regions, which include the Ottawa District Minor Hockey Association, the Ottawa and District Women's Hockey Association and Hockey Outaouais.
