Established Brands Reduces Application Latency and Simplifies Storage Architecture With Virident's FlashMAX Storage-Class Memory Solution

Brand Development Services Provider Improves Performance up to Eight Times by Moving From SAN Storage Architecture to Flash-Based Storage

MILPITAS, CA--(Marketwire - Dec 5, 2012) -  Virident Systems, a performance leader in flash-based Storage Class Memory (SCM) solutions, announced today that Established Brands, provider of brand development services for a wide range of retailers and companies, has increased shared storage performance, reduced application latency and simplified storage architecture using Virident's storage-class memory solution, FlashMAX™. Established Brands helps companies extend their brands into existing and new big-box retail markets. The company was maintaining its entire client shared storage on an aging storage area network (SAN), which was becoming complicated to manage and starting to hinder performance. With Virident's FlashMAX, the company was able to double its shared storage performance in a simpler manner, thus improving client relations.

A Top Branding Company
Established Brands provides brand development services for a wide range of retailers and companies. It has a reputation for helping companies extend their brands into existing and new big-box retail markets. IT performance helps drive the company's success; it virtualizes applications including virtual hard disks (VHDs), its website, SharePoint and the ERP database using Microsoft Hyper-V. The company had maintained all its shared storage on an aging SAN and needed a simple solution to improve performance.

FlashMAX Used for Primary Storage Solution

Initially, Established Brands deployed Virident FlashMAX as a fast backup solution, but FlashMAX performed so well that the IT department made it the primary active storage for SharePoint, the ERP database and all of the website data. The older SAN then became the backup. By migrating all its data to FlashMAX, the company improved the performance of its Microsoft SQL Server analytics solutions for 19,000 orders from between three and four minutes down to 30 seconds.

"SharePoint was click and wait about two to three seconds. There were either low-end consumer solutions that did not meet enterprise performance requirements or high-end, high-cost cards," said Andrew Mills, director of IT at Established Brands. "Upgrading to Virident's FlashMAX made everything faster -- the response time of SharePoint was less than a half second. In addition, we received an unexpected bonus: our website performance also improved by up to eight times."

Replacing the SAN with Virident FlashMAX has provided Established Brands with many benefits:

  • Six times improvement in application latency and user experience
  • Reduction in time-to-completion for analytics from between three and four minutes to 30 seconds
  • Significantly lower power and cooling requirements
  • Significantly lower cost than competitive solutions

"Increased performance metrics make a huge difference in the success of a company like Established Brands," said Shridar Subramanian, vice president, product marketing, Virident. "Solutions like Virident's FlashMAX not only boost performance but also reduce the space and power needed to run a data center; both factors have a lasting impact on the bottom line."
