Established Chief Nursing Executive, Susan Niemeier RN BSN MHA, Joins Capsule Tech, Inc.

Bringing Clinical Expertise and Perspective to Product Design and Development

ANDOVER, MA--(Marketwire - September 23, 2009) - Capsule (, the leading provider of medical device connectivity, today announced that Susan Niemeier RN BSN MHA has joined as Chief Nursing Officer. Ms. Niemeier will provide Capsule with significant insight related to the challenges and obstacles clinicians face to ensure that innovative clinical and workflow solutions are part of Capsule's overall product strategy.

Ms. Niemeier has more than 19 years experience in the nursing field, beginning her work in high stress care environments which inspired her to concentrate her efforts on clinical solutions to positively impact the nurse. "Capsule was a perfect fit for me because I have the same passion and dedication to enhancing clinical workflow as Capsule does. I am very excited to be working on a connectivity solution that is not only extremely effective in terms of getting device data into the EMR, but one that also makes nurses' lives easier every day," Niemeier says.

Ms. Niemeier's most recent experience includes the position of Director of Clinical Operations at Radianse, Inc. where she worked to improve operations, clinical effectiveness, and staff/patient satisfaction using real-time locations systems (RFID). Previously at Ascension Health in Missouri, Susan was responsible for researching, and developing innovative tools and methodologies to transform system efficiency, medication safety, and clinical workflow.

At Ascension Health, Ms. Niemeier shaped the scope of a ground-breaking study to identify drivers of inefficiency in nursing work processes and nursing unit design. In this study, she provided national coordination and project management for a 36-Hospital Time and Motion Study sponsored by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), and principal co-investigators from Ascension Health and Kaiser Permanente. As the largest healthcare time and motion study to date, medical-surgical nursing unit data was collected from clinically diverse hospitals to add to a rich body of knowledge about staffing, work environments, and evidenced-based design. The objectives of the study were to identify how nurses spend their time during their shift and to pinpoint environmental variables in the acute-care nursing workplace which can be altered to positively affect the efficiency of nursing care and patient safety.

With Ms. Niemeier's clinical expertise and strategic thinking, she fits right into Capsule's ongoing efforts to improve patient safety and enhance clinical workflow solutions. Mark Morwood, Vice President of Product Management at Capsule Tech, Inc. is excited about bringing Ms. Niemeier into the Capsule team. "Sue's experience and positive attitude is a great fit at Capsule. She is a key resource that we will depend on in all of our product development and strategy creation. Sue's perspective and knowledge of the clinical environment is truly valuable here at Capsule."
