Etisalat Gears for Future-Rich IPTV, Partners With Verimatrix for VCAS(TM) Security Solution

VCAS(TM) Secures Etisalat TV Upgrade and Partners With the UAE Operator for Major Content Syndication Initiative

LONDON--(Marketwire - March 23, 2011) - IP&TV World Forum 2011 -- Verimatrix, the specialist in securing and enhancing revenue for multi-screen digital TV services around the globe, today announced the successful deployment of the Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCAS™) for IPTV solution on Etisalat's advanced IP-based pay-TV service in the United Arab Emirates.

As Etisalat upgrades its infrastructure to an advanced FTTH network that will reach millions of homes and businesses in the UAE by 2011, VCAS for IPTV will secure Etisalat's TV service revenue streams.

Etisalat's TV service is part of eLife, Etisalat's flagship brand for fiber-optic based residential services that includes voice, broadband and Internet protocol television (IPTV), offered in attractive packages to customers across the UAE. It is estimated that by the end of 2011, thousands of customers will be enjoying Etisalat's next-generation TV and video service making it the largest IPTV operation in the Middle East.

The broader Etisalat Entertainment Network project creates a global syndication network for broadcasters and content owners, where they can publish their content once and trust that it will be protected and delivered securely to a very large customer base of telecom service providers in the region, including Etisalat's own subsidiaries.

"Etisalat has had a long and successful history as a pay-TV operator. Keeping up with the pace of progress, we are delighted to soon be offering our customers next-generation TV and video services on our advanced fiber-optic network. In benefit of our customers, our partnership with Verimatrix has ensured the rapid and smooth deployment of VCAS for IPTV solution," said Motaz Hashem, senior vice president-Marketing, Etisalat.

Verimatrix is also a major partner in the visionary Etisalat Entertainment Network project that will offer a suite of end-to-end IP-based digital entertainment service offerings, on a wholesale basis, to OpCos, ISPs, and content owners located within the reach of the Etisalat network or those who connect to the Internet.

Award-winning VCAS is the foundation of all Verimatrix content security solutions, utilizing standards-based cryptographic and e-commerce technologies proven on the Internet. VCAS secures multi-screen services across IPTV, DVB, mobile TV and cable IPTV delivery networks in more than 300 customer installations worldwide. VCAS 3, the latest generation of core security architecture, shifts the value proposition of conditional access (CA) towards the broader perspective of revenue security and offers key enhancements that enable multi-format delivery support.

VCAS 3 takes a format-independent approach to security that enables simultaneous and equivalent revenue security across a broad range of media formats, protocols and file types. Multi-format delivery enables, for instance, simultaneous and equivalent revenue security on multicast IP streams in a managed IPTV system and rate adaptive HTTP Live Streaming on a mobile network. Verimatrix also offers an unparalleled partner ecosystem for flexible deployment options with the widest choice of components and promise of interoperability. VCAS 3 helps enable the future growth of services and revenue on the Etisalat network.

"Our deployment with Etisalat is a huge milestone for the Verimatrix team, both in terms of our business growth in the region and as a validation of our shared vision of the pay-TV future," said Steve Oetegenn, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer, Verimatrix. "Etisalat's ambitious plans for customers and revenue growth will be supported with the kind of software-based multi network, multi-screen security architecture that Verimatrix has pioneered."

The deployment of Verimatrix for Etisalat's TV in the UAE and the Digital Entertainment Network regionally and globally was led by regional systems integrator Al-Falak, a leading provider of technology-based solutions to the Middle East.
