ETS and ITC Host Seminar on Enriching Education in Indonesia

The Seminar Will Focus on International Communication and English Language Education

JAKARTA, INDONESIA--(Marketwire - October 14, 2010) -  Educational Testing Service(ETS) has partnered with its Indonesia distributor, International Test Center (ITC), to host a one day symposium titled, Enriching Education in Indonesia by Encouraging the Use of English as a Tool for International Communication. The seminar, which took place yesterday, was attended by speakers and participants from across Indonesia who discussed the role and challenges of acquiring English as a tool for international communication.

"As Indonesia continues to develop and compete in the global market, education will play a significant role in preparing its workforce for the unique challenges of today's workplace," says Mohammad Kousha, Executive Director of ETS's Global Division. "ETS and ITC are committed to providing the tools and assessments that will help the Indonesian people meet their education and professional goals."

The seminar featured a keynote address from Professor Dr. Fasli Djalal, Vice Minister of National Education, who spoke about Indonesia's education policy and goals for reform. Following Djalal's remarks, panelists from Indonesia's Ministry of National Education, Ministry of Religious Affairs and National Institute of Public Administration participated in discussions on improving English language proficiency to meet global challenges, and equipping Indonesia's students and workforce to communicate well internationally.

ETS, through its partner ITC, has provided the TOEIC test in Indonesia since 1997. The TOEIC test is currently used by organizations, training & development institutes and businesses across Indonesia to screen candidates for job placement and promotion, and track the progress of students, employees and executives learning English.

"ITC has been privileged to work with Indonesia's students, education organizations and businesses in providing effective English language assessments and training services," says Victor Chan, CEO-ITC. "This seminar provides us with a better understanding of the unique needs of these groups, enabling us to be even more effective."

The TOEIC tests are ETS assessment tools that measure proficiency in everyday English language skills used in the workplace. With more than five million tests administered each year, the TOEIC tests are the standard measurement of workplace English language proficiency used by 10,000 organizations in 120 countries worldwide. By measuring all four skills, speaking, writing, listening and reading, the TOEIC tests help companies, organizations and agencies reach their business goals while helping test takers achieve their career goals.
